Pelosi should have done a little research on who really got the ball rolling on the collapse of Freddie and Fannie before running her mouth.

Definitely appears to be some house cleaning in order almost to the point of sweeping the whole mess of them out the door.......here is a question to those who support the bailout....

If there is no bailout who hurts the most??

If I am already middle class worker....big money market man or retired counting on my retirement.

Why is it that when the Republicans held congress, and a bill didn't pass, it was the Republican's fault, and now the Dems hold Congress, and a bill not passing is still the Republican's fault? Wall Street is now Las vegas east. If you play the game, there are risks involved. Nobody puts a gun to your head to invest your money there, you have other options. Look at Scottyboy, he did his homework, and made adjustments to protect himself. It's not my fault that others did nothing.

A/C - what if the bill was flawed  , or not as good as it could be  , or there was embedded corruption :o ??? Because there was bi-partisan "NO" votes, I am inclined to believe that there are few on the Hill that may want what's best for the country - instead of quick fix.

Not saying I'm right, the republican or demoncrats or anyone is right/wrong... but I know if we allow the Bush-appointed idiots who got us here, as well as Pelosi, Reid and Barney Frank [aka Clem Cadiddlehopper] all to mastermind and spear-head a correction plan - then we might as well have the financial genius of Charlie, tax-evader, Rangol to the rescue!

jamaro, ya need to go back and read some more on how washington works. the "ONLY" people who can initiate a plan that includes funding, is the congress. bush can't do it. he can't introduce anything. he can advise and coerce and twist arms or whatever and he can either sign a bill or veto it. congress are the only people who can put it up for a vote. then it goes to the senate, if it passes, and they can either vote it down or up or add pork to it or send it back to the house or whatever. the senate can also intitiate a bill and send it down to the house and then they can either pass it, not pass it, add pork, etc. that's how congress works. it was pelosi's responsibility to get it passed, and she had enough dumbocrats to pass it and couldn't even get that done. couldn't even get her croneys to go along with her. heck, 12 of barney frank's dumbocrat committiee members didn't even vote for it. pelosi and read are so weak and ineffective that it's a joke. "NOHING" can be bush's bill. it is against the way DC is set up to work. all he can do is sign it or veto it. the reason this didn't pass is because pelosi is an absolute joke as a legislator and even it did pass the house the senate woulda shot it down anyway because read has even smaller nuts than pelosi. once again, the president can not introduce legislation. he can influence it. but he can't introduce it. he can even get a croney to get it started. but he can't do it. this was pelosi and read's baby and they dropped it on it's head. and so far, it looks like it was a good thing. good night i get tired o' bein' a school teacher. Lark.

I thought W was too dumb to tie his own shoes? Now he gets credit for drawing up the plan, over a weekend, that will save us all and he also must be the one to make sure everyone votes for it? You people are too much.

Here's some news for you. The American people don't want this bill passed. They contacted their elected representatives and let them know that they will be thrown out of office if they pass it.

and pelosi was supposed to deliver the votes, from a dem congress that has enough of a majority that it didn't need even one republican vote to pass, and she couldn't get it done. and now her and barney boy and hairy and the media wanna blame it on republicans? i dont' get it. say what you want, but this was her baby and she dropped it on it's head. there ain't anyway that hairy coulda delivered the senate anyway. it took over 10 years to get here. there ain't anyway with all the morons in dc that they can come up with a fix in a week. blame the republicans all you want, but they were powerless to influence this bill, when it came to the vote. too many dem's were scared of not getting re-elected and rolled on pelosi and her croneys to save their necks. and again, bush can apply all the heat he wants, but nothing can be "his" bill. it ain't the way it works. Lark.

I really think you have lost touch with reality.... 2/3 of the Dems voted for it wrong or right.. 1/3 of the Rep voted for it wrong or right...

and from what I can piece together the votes were there until the Pelosi speech and them some Republicans got there feelings hurt..

apparently the 90 dems that did not vote for this bailout, voted no because it was not RICH ENOUGH!!!

many republicans are against this because they know it is not the 'popular' thing to do and they are right in the middle of competitive election races.

the bottom line in my opinion is greed. everywhere you look at this mess you see greedy people. from the little people to the wall street big wigs and everyone in between. a lot of little people unfortunately do not live within their means. they were approved for homes, cars and credit cards that they could not afford.

guess what - it is time to pay the piper. ever heard of a cash call? well that is what this is.

and 99% of you will vote for one of the two gas bags that represent the same philosophies that got us where we are today. So don't whine when DC bends us over again....and again........and again.......

Those of you who have a few years before retirement can ride this so-called "correction" out if you or your employers can stay in business, which is looking doubtful after today's vote.

Those of us who rely upon our retirement funds to meet daily living expenses are in deep doo-doo already.

We have no choice but to sell shares of our mutual funds at 1990 prices.

This has resulted in the money my wife and I saved all our adult life for our "golden" years shrinking more than 45% since November ... and our money was invested "conservatively!"

Bill Quimby

:(

Bill - sorry to hear about your situation. unfortunately there are a lot of people in the same boat that you are. I am still a ways from retirement and do not know what the performance of bond funds have been since Nov but I would think they would not have been -45%. Based on everything I have read, retired people should have their nest eggs in very conservatively invested areas so that this exact type of thing does not happen to them.

J you and Lark are well-posted and respected fellas but what special access to private discussions or insight into the minds of thems on Capital hill do you have to tell Lark "he's lost touch with reality"?

No disrespect intended but NO ONE knows for sure what went on and more interviews with financial hot shots are casting some doubt about how well that plan was crafted. I'd rather be the fella accused of dragging his feet - than found out later as someone who unwittingly supported something full of pork and special interests.

GARSH, look at the stock market today!?!? The sky aint fallin' the ski ain't fallin!!! Any time someone trys to ram something down your throat it's best to take a few steps back rather than swallow! Believe me - I've been in prison!
