azphil Report post Posted September 29, 2008 My friend Jim and I were drawn for our first whitetail hunt in 36B- last weekend in November. Is there a group camping area? We're mainly concerned because of the border issues. We'll probably be scouting near Pena Blanca Lake. Any help would be appreciated-
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted September 29, 2008 There are usually a good amount of camps concentrated around Pena Blanca. Lots of deer too.

WinMag Report post Posted September 30, 2008 I've camped at the Arivica Lake group camp area (Top Side) for the last 10 years and never had any problems. There is alot of good hunting around that area too if you know where to go. But you do have to stay on your toes while out and about in the hills due to border issues. I shot this little toad (102") down there three years ago on opening morning sunrise.
AZP&Y Report post Posted September 30, 2008 FYI - Pena blanca lake is closing Oct 06 , 2008 ... read on - still lots of forest roads in the area avail for camping... http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coronado/forest/re...na_blanca.shtml * NOTE: The lake will be closed for an extended period of time starting October 6, 2008. This is due to the major joint agency lake restoration clean up project. Click here to the formal announcement that provides the details. AzP&Y

ichiban43 Report post Posted September 30, 2008 A decent place to stay is this little park in Aravaca. But don't believe the ad totally--there was no bar when I stayed there 2 yrs ago and the caretaker said they had scrapped the idea. The store wasn't done either--but they said it would be open soon. I have the early Nov hunt and may stay there. An unattended camp is a problem down there. WWW.universalranch.com/index.html (you'll have to copy & paste the link--couldn't get it to work--sorry) Good luck--BOB
