Boarman03 Report post Posted November 21, 2021 Is it my imagination or are our summers getting longer ( measured by higher temperatures for a longer period of time)? Maybe it's just that I'm getting older. I posted this in a different forum and thought my fellow desert dwellers could relate. For those of you who have spent a summer in AZ, or who live here, I have a saying I think you will appreciate and relate to: "We live here (in AZ) because; if we are going to heck, we are already used to it. And if not, we can appreciate what we are missing!" I think summer is finally over, for this year. We wear jackets for temperatures below 85 degrees.

One of my exact words was automatically edited by the program to heck. Still works.
Boarman03 Report post Posted November 21, 2021 I heard Alaska had temps at -15 degrees the other day. I think I would be a Snowbird at that point.
Sky Island junkie Report post Posted November 21, 2021 I kinda think as you say, we’re getting older and have a harder time tolerating these Indian summers. I think these periods of dry warm weather come and go. Heck, we had snow on the October WT hunt last year in southern ax. Our family has weather records going back to 1911 here in southern az and from what I can remember looking through those, the 30s May have been as rough or rougher than what we’ve gone through in recent history and they didn’t have all the concrete and asphalt. Who knows? Good topic though
Hoss50 Report post Posted November 21, 2021 One thing I think I feel from living in AZ all my life is that the summer season seems to be starting later, but ending later. I feel like when I was a kid temps in April and May getting hotter quicker, then they have in more recent years. My mom had a rule that i couldn't go swimming till it hit 95*. I remember swimming on my birthday in early April when I was a kid. Now some years we are not hitting 100* til deep into May. I remember having Thanksgivings outdoors in shorts when I was a kid too though, as well as Thanksgivings when we screened in our carport with plastic and added heaters to get it warm for big dinners. I don't really know...😂
Sky Island junkie Report post Posted November 21, 2021 I was working in McCormick ranch the summer it hit 122 and everyone was losing their minds! I remember thinking it’s just another day in June! What’s everyone so worked up for! Well my body responds to the heat differently these days!🤣
PRDATR Report post Posted November 21, 2021 This year was at or below normal for temps. Maybe 4 years ago we had something like 60 days over 110 but it goes in spurts and seems to be on a 12-15 year cycle. Plenty of data out there if you have the inkling to search it or Greta can do it for you. We are getting Hotter, Drier, Wetter and Colder and all the Prius's won't have much of an effect until about 2200 when most fossil fuels are a thing of the past but buy then there will be 3X's the amout of people on the planet so tell your grandkids to go see the glaciers and sell flood insurance.
