elkman Report post Posted September 25, 2008 I have a winchester 70 pre 64 in 300 wsm. It has a walnut stock, stainless matt barrell. Has been fluted and bedded. Just wondering if anyone knows what it would be worth. I may be selling it to help fund my mexico trip this year. Thx Josh
Red Rabbit Report post Posted September 25, 2008 You had a pre 64, opened up the bolt face, altered the feed rails and rebarreled to a WSM? Probably lost any pre 64 value.
ronaldo Report post Posted September 25, 2008 Im bettin its a 300 Win Mag, not a WSM. they didnt make pre 64 Winchesters in 300 WSM back then the caliber wasnt around. Depends on the condition what its worth, dont let nobody low ball you on it either.... Ron
.270 Report post Posted September 25, 2008 you sure it's a pre 64? they made few in .300 win mag. sounds to me like one of the new ones they are fond of calling a pre-64 because they added a mauser extractor to em. if it's a pre 64 the serial number will be less than 500,000. Lark the barrell says 300wsm. I will check the serial number tomorrow to confirm. I aquired the gun from a customer who couldnt pay me in full. Don't know what has been done other than what he told me. Thanks for the input.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted September 26, 2008 If it is stamped 300 wsm, there is no way that it is a pre 64. The action could be a pre 64, but like RedRabbit has said, it would have to be customized.

Thx Josh Lots of folks describe any CRF (Controlled Round Feed) action Winchester Model 70 as a "pre-64" or "pre-64 style" firearm. Since this rig is in .300 Winchester Short Magnum caliber it is most likely a CRF M70 out of New Haven, manufactured prior to the switch to the South Carolina FN plant, and not a pre-1964 manufactured gun. A posted pic would likely help clear the matter up.
.270 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 ia it a pre-64 model 70 or a model 94? i don't recall they made a model 70 in .30/30. if they did, it's worth a bunch. i know they made the model 54 in .30/30. it was the predeccesor to the model 70. if it's a model 94 it depends on how old it is, what model it is and the condition. older is worth more. long barrels, short barrels, saddle rinds, engraving etc. all add to the value. if it's say a 94 made in the 50's in good condition, i'd say 5-600 bucks. right after they quit making the 94, anything was worth $800. they've gone down a little now, but are still worth some money. winchester made so many variations of things that you'd need a real ive appraiser if it has anything extra on it. yotebuster Report post Posted October 15, 2008 I missed out on a Pre-64 in .264 mag last year, drug my feet for a day and it sold, they wanted 900 for it, it was just a shooter, had a different pad on it and had been reblued, but I'd love a classic gun in a classic caliber like that, throw an old bausch and lomb on that bad boy and kill stuff with it!!! I have a new model with the pre-64 extractor in it in 7 STW thats scary accurate, got it for my 12th birthday, its killed 41 deer, 1 elk, 1 moose, god knows how many coyotes, and even a partidge in a pear tree. (wasn't much left of him, so I ate a pear instead....)

Haha, I was obsessed with ballistics and reloading when I was a kid (still am!) Dad wanted to get me a .243, but I wanted something that I could reach out and touch with! I loaded it down a bit after the first time at the range with a t-shirt on!!! That was back when the STW was "the" long range caliber, its since gone the wayside, but between me and my brothers and dad we have 4 or 5 of them, so we're gonna keep it alive! I'm sure there are a few guys on here that still are rockin the STW....
