az4ever Report post Posted November 12, 2021 First time hunter here looking at the Fishhooks wilderness area in 28 for mule deer. I’m from Arizona but I’m stationed in Southern California and I won’t have time to scout before the archery season starts. I can’t find much information about the area at all and was wondering if mule deer live at that elevation in the unit. I’m more than willing to backpack in. Appreciate any help! Coues79 Report post Posted November 12, 2021 Water is the limiting factor in that part of the unit. There are few and far between mule deer in that country but you can find some. The country north of there, the reservation, holds better deer numbers..... better mule deer country once you get on top of that rim. The country is beautiful but pretty gnarly with few deer.
