JVS Report post Posted December 27, 2004 From experience, the honda is the best all-around bike. The new rubicon is nice. It has a hard time warming up the first few months before it is broken in and the valves are adjusted the first time. Next, the yamaha for a smooth ride. Just a reminder to everyone...Make sure we all use good ethics while riding. 4-wheelers are a great tool to have in the field, but we need to use them responsibly. Tonto Report post Posted December 27, 2004 I don't think you can beat a Honda, check out the Foreman and the Rancher. The best all around, I think! Tonto

ultramag Report post Posted December 27, 2004 I just purchased a polaris sportsman 600 last week. Hooked <{POST_SNAPBACK}> the polaris is my second choice, you sure see a lot of those out there, how do you like the suspension, and the racks, the only thing that i dont like are the racks, but mybe if i used them once i might change my mind
az4life Report post Posted December 27, 2004 I have tried a Manco Talon recently. Yeah Yeah alright it is not a polaris but it does have good warranty and the price is not polaris either. I think they can be had for around 3 grand for a 250cc with racks galore and decent power. I am supposed to test another in a few days or a week from another company new to the market. Much less cost and comparable to manco talon. It won'tbe available for retail until April is whaqt I hear, but will keep you advised if it turns out to be worthwhile. If money is no object, polaris is the leader IMHO. Should be able to do some dealing with the atv dealers now, as they are slow in Jan-feb.
111 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Polaris 700.
TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Polaris and Honda are the two most popular hunting 4 wheelers. I researched both quads in depth and decided to go w/ the Polaris. The surveys I did had the majority preferring polaris over honda however I don't think you can go wrong w/ either one. I love my Polaris.
ultramag Report post Posted December 28, 2004 are the polaris that good ,i heard the brakes and suspension ,kinda suck for those,my main goal #1good suspension ,#2 good power #3i need to stop, the other thing about the polaris is they only come in automatic transmission witch i dont care for,and the cheesy racks
Daniel in Ak Report post Posted December 28, 2004 If you do your research you'l find out that it's said Polaris is #1 and then Honda #2.But on a personal preference it's up to you. There should be a review on the new wheelers coming out in one of the wheeler magazines, but I dont know when. Seems like depending on the terrain where you'll be hunting should be a factor on what you choose.I know alot of people up here in Alaska like the bigger 600's and 700's for the horse power to haul in equipment and the amount of meat from the Moose they get But on the other hand the smaller wheelers get further into the country as they can flaot across the muskeg better than the heavier wheelers that will sink.SO with those factors in mind I went with the a Kawasaki 300 for the wife and a Kawasaki 360 for myself.Granteed they do not have the pulling or horse power as the bigger wheelers, but Im not into all that.I need reliable and cost efficient to replace parts.Yeah I have a small fuel tank as the bigger ones but we carry 5 gallon cans with us.Sometimes four per bike. And the weight limit for the racks seems proper for the Caribou we hunt. All in all our bikes have been great for us.The 300 is two years old and going strong. The 360 had it's maiden hunt this season with the Grizzly that came at me,but I have no pic's of the wheeler with the bear, but here I am two days after getting my Grizzly with my Bull on the 360. Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted December 28, 2004 Wow Daniel!! that's also God's country.Beatifull!! What do you do or what do wear to fight the freezen temperatures? Ernesto C
Daniel in Ak Report post Posted December 28, 2004 yes it is Ernesto...and did you notice the Glacier in the Mountains behind me in the 2nd pic?If I remember right thats the 1st or 2nd deadliest river in Alaska, due to the fact that it's Glacial fed. As to the freezing temps, trust me it's not as cold as what people think. The coldest temps are always recorded in the lower forty-eights.We've had temps in the teens here this year while Wyoming has had temps in the negative 20's during the same week. But we did hit 42 below this past weekend, and right now it's warm at zero. It's really a extremly dry cold here, drier than arizona in-fact. In order to keep warm I usually wear a hooded sweatshirt. That with the black lined Carhart coat keeps me warm down to 20-30 below.Depending on how much I move around while working outside I might have to put a thermal shirt on also, thats a rarity for me tho,and that has done well for me down to 60 below. No matter what boots are rated for trust me you still get cold feet.Other than that you take it in stride as the weather up here changes all the time like back home(Sierra Vista) but we will get extreme changes.Just yeasterday my dad said Sierra Vista had snow and he was freaking cold at 32 degrees or so,I just laughed as thats like 60 degree weather to us hahahahaha! So If this Arizona boy can handle it up here it's all good.Daniel
