RoughCut Report post Posted September 18, 2008 Hello all, I was wanting to know if anybody was familiar with the limited opp. that includes units. 15A, 15B, 17A, 17B, 18A, 18B, 19B, 20A and 20C. I hunted the Juniper Mesa Wilderness Opening weekend as well as some country west of Paulden. I did not see or HEAR a single one. I hunted both of these last year and in both places the rut action was full speed. Starting to doubt myself and wondered if any of you guys know any of this country. Any help would be great. Thanks
NRS Report post Posted September 18, 2008 Try the area west of Camp Wood
KGAINES Report post Posted September 18, 2008 Near yolo or 7up ranches, you can also try peeples valley, though you might have to get permission to hunt on some property. Close to campwood could be where everyone is congregated, but it is definately worth a try. Have fun and let us know what you see.

I was there last year and there was a bunch of elk just on the ORO Ranch which is the Maria Baca Float. I am not sure if I could ever catch one off of that private property. There sure were a bunch of hunters up there as well. Thanks for the advice guys I will try and head up there tomorrow. That seems to be the area most people recommend. DesertBull Report post Posted September 18, 2008 I've hunted Peeple's Valley and Yarnell area many many times and have never seen any elk sign. I heard that a big 6x6 bull got whacked by a truck on the road around Kirkland though.

The ORO will let you on I think for a trespass fee to hunt elk, I don't think they allow it for deer though. Desertbull you may be right, I heard the info from Peeple's valley from a friend, and he did say they were on private property, he was telling me because I have the rifle tag for the limited opp hunt for the same units. When it's hearsay you never know, kinda like scouting on the internet.
buglethemin Report post Posted September 19, 2008 Try the 19B side, just north of the walnut creek turn, and before fr7, which i beleive is the road that takes you west into juniper mtn wilderness. Look at the small rolling hills east of the county rd, between walnut creek and fr7, I found a heard of bulls a few december hunts ago, and my friend and I each shot on. I found a nice 7x7 near gobler peak or Mtn, in the Juniper Mtn wilderness, last year on a friends archery hunt. The area was foot access only, no vehicles. savagman Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Curious how things worked out? I drew a tag for this LO hunt this year and plan to scout all summer. Might spend some time scouting and shed hunting this spring as well. I am looking at starting with either the Music or Peacock Mountains. What do you guys think? Anyone else have this tag and want to share scouting information? I drew a rifle cow tag so I won't be competing for your bull.
Flash Report post Posted April 4, 2009 Had a tag in there last year. Pretty tought to find any elk, and then when you do, hope it isn't on private land! Never got to the Peacocks, but there isn't much land on the Musics that is your hunt. The reservation accompanies most of the range. I found elk around the Las Vegas Ranch and the ORO. Main group I found was in 17B, but the name of the ranch is slipping my mind right now. It is south of the ORO and west of the LV ranch. A main road from Chino Valley goes to it. Pressure from hunters was off and on, but there were several groups running around there. Good luck.
