ScottAdams Report post Posted December 31, 2004 CHD, I appreciate the compliments. I'm glad we were able to bring a little of the Arizona hunting adventure into your home. Ultramag we saw 3 Coues does, 1 muley buck and 1 whitetail buck. They were out of the wind but still out in the rain feeding. The buck was showing some signs of rut, staying close to one doe and lip curling. We were out again today, saw 7 muley does, 1 muley buck and 7 Coues does and 1 Coues buck. Very warm weather and not a lot of activity, although the coues buck was actively searching for does. He looked like a small buck so we'll continue on tomorrow and see what we can find. Hopefully the last day will be the best. We have us a pretty good game plan. Where we hunted today. The boys taking a break on the way out this afternoon. One more photo of yesterdays buck. bullwidgeon Report post Posted January 3, 2005 Good job!!! I was wondering if it was a solid hit. That first shot sounded good anyways. But in that weather I was figuring following a blood trail could get ugly. We got soaked all day and night. I hunted till the end and saw 3 more bucks both up there and down where I shot that lion but nothing bigger than the one I got in NM last month, and I never saw a whitetail buck in the rut. In fact, the next day, not far from where you guys nailed that nice one we had 12 coues does on the same slope and stayed on them all day. A buck just never showed up. There is a really nice heavy and wide 3x3 carp buck rutted out of his head begging for an arrow up in there though. Again, nice deer Craig and excellent pictures Scott. Maybe next year I might get lucky. Bret M.
ScottAdams Report post Posted January 3, 2005 I was wondering where you and your buddy were. I never did see you after I talked to you. I thought maybe the rain had run you off, it nearly did us. Yes, Craig made a fatal hit on the first shot but when the buck didn't immediately go down he put a couple more rounds in his direction. He only went about 30 yards before expiring when Craig put another round in his boiler room, so we didn't have to track him in the rain. I think Craig is still on top of the world. Unfortunately Bret you probably missed the best hunting during the cold spell right before Christmas. There was a lot of rutting activity with rut crazed bucks chasing does everywhere we looked. I only wished the hunting had been this good last year. I saw at least 3 bucks this year that were bigger than anything I ever saw last year. Oh well, like you said, there's next year. GRONG Report post Posted January 3, 2005 Son of gun this is one heck of a awesome post Scott!!! Thanks for taking all of us hunting with you man that is way too cool. Congrats to 300WSM and his nice buck. Man that deer you guys got looks bigger than 92" in the pics. That giant buck thru the scope is AWESOME!!!!!!! You killed me with that one! It's awesome seeing a deer like that but even better when you get to take a little piece of him home with you in the pics. What a beauty! I hate the wind, have I ever told you guys/gals that? ScottAdams Report post Posted January 3, 2005 Boy Josh I'm glad you thought he looked bigger too. I was feeling kind of bad. When Craig dropped him I told Craig that I thought he had just killed a 100 inch buck. I definitely thought he would go higher than 92. I just went through my numbers and again and everything checked out. It certainly doesn't detract at all from a really nice buck, and I don't know many people... make that any people that would have passed him up. I just wish I could get a little better on my field judging. The Hike out. He doesn't look quite so big here. Thanks for the compliment on the post. That digiscoping is a lot of fun, and you're right, the photos are the next best thing to actually harvesting the animal. About that wind. It had been in our faces for a while and then slowly shifted around on us. The change was so subtle the we hadn't even realized it until the buck spooked and we started trying to find out why, we then realized it was blowing right up our backsides!! What luck. Man, what a great year to have a tag!! I'm ready for more!!!! How bout you? Scott
