Catch and Release hunting

Recommended Posts

I went over to my buddies house the other night to have a few beers and have some deer steaks. We were watching a few hunting shows on channel 302. There is an outfitter in Colorado that books catch and release hunting trips. I'm sure they were on private land, but they were hunting elk with tranquilizer darts. After the 350+ bull had succomed to the drugs these guys went over and cut his antlers off!!! How rude!! The guide was selling the idea by saying "You get the trophy (antlers) and the bull gets to live another day". I feel this type of "hunting" puts alot of stress on the animals and shows total disrespect for them , other than their antlers, the hunters seemed happy. This type of thing may happen to a particular bull/buck year after year interfering with their ability to defend a harem/breed. They are not able to live life as they should. What does everyone else think of this?

I found it completly unethical, irresponsable and makes me sad. Those people are not hunters, they should not be called hunters. Whit this practice, they are encouragin people to poach, some of those guys will became poachers, great posibility of that. Just my two cents.

Personally, I do not think that sort of hunt would be for me, however I do have to wonder if that may be the wave of the future. Heck a hunt like that is probably for the big $pender anyway. They have no idea of the real reward in putting food on the table. Only interested in the Kill and the Show and tell trophy.

We have to Face it, Hunting is changing with all of the Anti's and the Lawyers getting into our sport. Putting people on the state board who have never experienced the sport in supervisory positions is another example. Seems to me like putting a fat person in charge of designing weight loss diets for Ethiopins. It does not add up!

We sportsmen also have the threat and fear of Chronic Wasting disease. In Elk and Deer the meat may be a problem, and no one can say for sure what is and is not safe, but most experts agree, The antlers are not affected by CWD. Taking only the antlers, a hunter can still take a trophy and have the visual reward and reminder.

If I was a PETA person (and I am Not) I might rationalize that stressing the animals is better than killing them. TGhat will be the argument for now, then... This is just the way those jerks get their feet in the door and start the changes. Next thing we know, they will be outlawing any photos of animals in the wild.

Yes sir, I tell you the times are a changing, 50 years from now, I would not be surprised if the only way you can hunt is in a virtual reality "game".

As for me, I wil follow the "waste nothing" hunting rules so we eat what we harvest.

That is my nickel's worth on the topic.

Why don't they just use a camera if they want to catch and release?

That would suck to wake up from a nap and find an important part of your body missing ;) , don't you think?
