BowNut Report post Posted September 7, 2008 I have a question for the guys who have hunted 22 in Oct. I have found bucks all over the unit. What I want to know is with 600+ tags were do most of the hunters hunt in this unit? I have not hunted it before but have done my homework in the unit now I just want to know were most of the traffic is during that hunt so I can stay away from most of it. I found some REALLY good bucks this weekend and I have a bad feeling it will be full of hunters during the hunt because it is fairly easy to access. I will miss the first three days of the hunt do to my sisters wedding so I will be hunting during the week so I hope that will help some.Any help you can give me will be great and very appreciated. Thanks
coueschaser3 Report post Posted September 7, 2008 the easy access points i.e. mt.ord road and deer creek and barnhart tend to be FULL of people, lot of road cruisers, folks glassin from the road and camped in every available spot. some of the rougher more hikin involved areas in between main roads tend to be pretty productive. Buckhunter Report post Posted September 7, 2008 You said the best thing! You'll be hunting during the week, all the weekend traffic will stur up the deer. But after Monday if theres not to many people out there you should have a good chance at a buck. Good luck. I have shot two in a row there. Last year I put 4 guys on 8 bedded bucks and killed 4 bucks in about 15 seconds. We had meat all over the ground.

4Falls Report post Posted September 7, 2008 And don't forget about the other 600+ tags at the same time 1200 + deer hunters in 22 all at once Insane Gotta agree with Mike on this one. As someone who grew up in that unit. Even in the good ole days 1200 hunters is way too many all at once. Wear some Grong orange and stay safe.

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted September 7, 2008 Just so you all know, at the last hunt set meeting in April, the commission (Hernbrode in particular) asked the dept to come up with another 10% increase in tag numbers in the next two years! The Dept's response was that would be no problem. Amanda

erucker Report post Posted September 11, 2008 I think it may benefit you hunting during the week. The majority will be there for opening weekend only. One of my best bucks came the following Friday in an area that was littered with hunters the prior weekend. Once the deer feel the pressure they will shutdown and wait til pressure lightens up. I have had this happen in the southern units as well. I second the thought of getting off the beaten path and checking the overlooked areas. Most people don't want to work that hard. Good luck, ER
