Firewater Forge Report post Posted July 25, 2021 I usually just wet a patch or two to get the "chunks" out and follow up with a dry patch. I have heard of people using rubbing alcohol to swab out the bore but haven't heard just how well it works. My question is does it help break up and remove the fouling or does it dry out faster/better? Let me know what your experience has been.
stoney4325 Report post Posted August 4, 2021 At the range I use windex or rubbing alcohol followed by a dry patch. I think it removes some fouling, its a lot easier to load after a couple of shots. Out of the two, alcohol seems to dry faster when looking at the dry patch. just my observations.

It's also the reason I went back to pyrodex from blackhorn since windex/IPA mix cleans the bore easily with one wet and one dry patch. 777 and blackhorn still had the crud ring and affected my follow-up shots.
L Cazador Report post Posted August 4, 2021 Running two patches of anything and then dry patch does nothing more than condition the bore. I have verified this with a bore scope. No removal of any copper or carbon fouling is evident. Two patches soaked with Kroil are best for conditioning when putting the real job of cleaning off!
