Good Scouting/hunting weekend

Recommended Posts

Well, had a great weekend. Its amazing how 1 extra day makes such a difference. Headed out Saturday morning for some deer hunting/ elk scouting. Got in before first light and started hearing bugles right off the bat and that got the blood pumping! Headed in that direction and slipped in a a small herd. Had about 6 Bulls bugling and after getting in pretty close saw a descent 6X6. Watched hima and a couple cows for awhile when I heard what sounded like a mature bulls bugle. Went in towards the sound and just over a small rise saw this bull raking a tree. The wind was right and he was facing directly away so I ditched my pack and bow and grabbed the camera. He was pretty focused on that little sapling so I manage to sneak up to about 35 yds and get some pics before he saw me. Sorry about the quality of the pics. It was a little dark and I didnt want the flash to spook him so I had trouble focusing. Anyways enjoy the pics and just curious what you guys think he would score. All I know is if hes standing 35 yards away in 2 weeks Im sending one his way. Jay

Always hard to tell by photos. I would say by the photo of him running that he has a very nice top end. Good length on them all. It is harder to tell what the bottom half looks like. But if they are holding with the length of the top half i would say he is a very good shooter. Photos never show mass on a moving animal very well. I hope we get the chance to see photos of you standing between the rack as he lies on the ground with your fatal shot. Then we will all get a better fill for the mass and length of him. I would be shooting that is for sure.

Jay,

Why don't you stick an arrow thru him so we can all know the score for sure!

He's a dandy, now go out and find him!

Good luck on the hunt!

That is a cool bull! I am going to say he is a young bull with GREAT potential! He has awesome lenght, but virtually no mass for a bull of that size!

Id still ground check him!

Appears the first bull has a forked brow tine, good third, and no fifth on the right side. Good looking bull and neat action photo. Have a great weekend.

That is one of the most amazing photos I've ever seen of an elk....

I think the reason the elk is in focus and the trees are not is that he was moving the camera in sync with the elk, while the trees remained still. That is seriously a contender for photo of the year!

That's an awesome looking bull with lots of character. I see it the same as RR. If I had to guess at score I'd say about 330.

J, Nice pictures.. that bull looks real cool. He has pretty good tops and good look at that main beam length it drops down and adds some inches.. He is not a huge bull (looks to be a really big 5x5) is that left side only have 5 points? but even as a mainframe 5x5 I bet it is isn't an inch under 320, his mass is one of the only things really lacking. Nice job, sure a pretty bull.
