coueshunter Report post Posted August 31, 2008 Well, friday night we went up and hunted for about 1 1/2 hours before dark. We didnt see anything friday night, but my son Travis had high spirits for friday morning. We set out friday, got into the blind at 5:30 and man was the wind blowing. I bet it blew close to 60mph for about 1 hour. We waited it out, the blind almost blew over a couple times, but come about 8:00 things settled down. At 8:30 a.m. I saw deer and Travis got ready. Two bucks came in, and Travis drew. Man was I excited, waiting for the shot....................he shoots.........arrow flys about 2 feet over the buck and they both scatter...........Travis is really mad, shaking like a leaf in the wind..........I calm him down, let him know this happens to alot of people and tell him he will have another chance...........presto, 1/2 hour later another single buck comes in, but startles and is gone for about 10 minutes then sneaks back in down wind. I am talking to Travis to "dont move", "draw when his head is behind the trees", etc. etc... this buck presents the shot, Travis draws, realeases............buck ducks the shot...............Travis is so mad at this point, but at least he had two shot opportunities................I tell him how quick/fast those bucks are, and the next chance he gets.................AIM LOW..............we had a great hunt, alot of fun, father and son stuff...................lessons learned...........................Allen & Travis Taylor...........................p.s. The firs buck was around 80" which may have helped the shaking..........second buck was a forked horn with eye guards.................
Eagle Eye Report post Posted August 31, 2008 Thats a bummer, but tell him to keep his head up and he will eventually get one... takes patience. Took me a while to get my first deer with a bow, and when it happened, it was exciting.

DesertBull Report post Posted September 1, 2008 Same thing happened to me last year. I waited for two days for a buck to come in and when he finally did, I missed a slam dunk shot. 10 minutes later a 2nd buck walks down the trail and I was able to hold it together and drilled him. The only way to learn to 1/2 way control it is to keep putting yourself in the same situation. Sooner or later, your mind will calm down enough for you to make the shot.
