SDHNTR Report post Posted August 28, 2008 Do you guys hunt with the screen up or down? Have you ever had it adversely effect a shot? I'm not worried about 20 yard shots too much but has anyone tried a 40+ yards shot though it? how about an angled shot through it? I feel like it will be helpful to keep up but I must admit that for some reason I just don't have much confidence getting an accurate arrow through it. Especially at longer yardages. But man, it sucks staring through that stuff all day.

erucker Report post Posted August 28, 2008 I don't know one way or the other, But from a physics stand point I will shy away from shots through loose screens. I make sure my screens are as tight as I can get them. I just have to believe a loose screen adds drag to the arrow. I shot through a tight screen and connected fine. I watched a buddy shoot through a loose screen and he did not connect (Multiple times). Could be just a coincidence. ER

azhunter23 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 I have been practicing out to 50 yards and haven't seen a difference in arrow flight, but on the other hand when I was out last weekend I thought about it the whole time I was sitting . Like you I hated looking through it so what I did was pulled it down in the middle 1/2 way so I could look out. I practiced sliding it back up without to much movement when I had deer around me. I will have to say that I was taking photos, I had it down and had deer as close as 6 yards and they did not notice. I had 5 deer come in at different times and my cover was never blown with it down. SDHNTR Report post Posted August 29, 2008 See that is the problem. The blinds I use are left in place too, but with the screen up, so the moment you open just a part, you have a big black hole that wasn't there before. That worries me that it would keep deer from coming within range. So it's a toss up, do I open the screen and risk not having deer come in, or do I leave the screen in place and risk it affecting my shot? Which risk is worth taking? SDHNTR Report post Posted August 29, 2008 No, the blind with the screen up looks the same as it always does. It's when I open the screen that I get a black hole. So far the blind is not spooking them, the bigger bucks just arent coming in. Little bucks and does come in, but no big boys yet. I've left the screen up completely and opened it just a little and it doesn't seem to make a difference with the does and spikes, I'm just not sure about the big bucks. That new black hole can't help things.
standman Report post Posted August 29, 2008 My brothers big buck he just killed he shot through the screen. We have always shot through the screen with no problems at all. We have shot through the screen using muzzy's, slick tricks, and the expandble rocket steelhead. No problems.
