bcoover Report post Posted August 27, 2008 I was eaten alive by mosquito's this past weekend. Does anyone know of a scent-free bug spray/lotion? Thanks. Oh the pitfalls of archery hunting. I am yet to solve the problem myself. I will be interested to see what kind of post show up.
jnobleinaz Report post Posted August 28, 2008 This is something I have gone through heck with, skeeters and no seeums eat me alive. The only thing that works is deet. Usually 20% or more for serious problems. Off makes a sportsmans that has 30% but anything over 30% doesnt work any better. I heard if you are sitting in a stand those thermacells work, but I do not have experience with those. Hopefully someone else will. Except beware that not all people get bit and have the same reaction to mosquitoes and no see ums as others so if you get advice from one of the lucky ones you are screwed! I would rather have bug spray on any day!
IHunt2live Report post Posted August 28, 2008 I had a can of Cutter Advanced Sport, "oderless" that worked good. Only had a few chiger bites and all other bugs seemed to stay away. I doubt it was oderless to deer though. It did leave my hands a little stick if I rubed the stuff in if I didn't wash my hands though.

gotcoues Report post Posted August 28, 2008 If your sitting a stand or blind or glassing for that matter, the thermocell unit works. I was turned on to the thermocell while hunting in Florida. They wouldn't let me leave the bunk house without one. They're flat out fantastic. You can see the little buggers, they just stay out of your "zone"

Ya I know but using more than 100% deet doesnt work any better than 30% they make that stuff to market to people that dont know how deet works. This is not a snide remark I realize you were just probably letting me know they carried it.

KB-AZ Report post Posted August 28, 2008 I toughed it out through Fri. & Sat., but Sunday morning I finally broke down and sprayed all over. My brother made it through Friday and drove into town Sat. to get the bug spray. I was a little surprised, there were hardly any bugs all summer scouting, but the mosquito's were thick this weekend. I'll look for the Cutter "odorless" and keep the wind in my face.
jnobleinaz Report post Posted August 28, 2008 I have tried that stuff you are going to look for and it doesnt work at all. it has picaridin in it instead of deet. Here is a link to some results similar to mine. Good luck www.buggspray.com/picaridin.html
