lowyder993s Report post Posted December 20, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I couldn't be more proud of my son...Dec 18th he dropped a 4 pt coues in 36B This was his second deer hunt. We saw about 25 does before he picked up this buck scanning the hills. There was confusion on my part as to whether it was a buck or not (turns out we were looking 2 different deer). He was adament it was a buck, but couldn't find it again on the hill. We ranged the other canyon wall at 330 yds. We backed off, dropped into the bottom of the canyon and set up to glass. Bigger than life, a buck gets up and starts side-hilling away. Bryce was set up on his pod, I ranged the buck at 185 yds as it quartered away along the ridge. It moved in and out of the ocotillo, pausing twice in openings. I thought my heart was going to jump outta my chest! I kept asking if he had it. I watched as the buck neared the ridgeline, it paused and looked back in our direction. BOOM...next thing I'm looking at the sky(scared the poop out of me), I brought the glasses down in time to see the rump settling on the ground. After hearty congratulations, we went up to the ridge. Perfect neck shot, no ruined meat!!! I flipped him the keys to the truck, telling him if he's man enuf to drop that deer, he's man enuf to drive the truck. We got back to the deer, gutted it and lashed it to the frame. He packed it out 2 canyons back to the truck. I don't care if my tag gets filled, that was more than enogh hunt for me. Hopefully he'll stick w/ it, cuz we all know how hard it is to find a good hunting partner. Sorry Amanda...I'll only post 1 picture. JimBTW...we had the distinct pleasure of meeting Scottyboy...great guy. Rolled in while we were skinning 'em out.
