William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate formed the National Rifle Association in 1871. The primary goal of the association would be to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis," according to a magazine editorial written by Church. After being granted a charter by the state of New York on November 17, 1871, the NRA was founded. Civil War Gen. Ambrose Burnside, who was also the former governor of Rhode Island and a U.S. senator, became the fledgling NRA's first president. An important facet of the NRA's creation was the development of a practice ground. In 1872, with financial help from New York State, a site on Long Island, the Creed Farm, was purchased for the purpose of building a rifle range. Named Creedmoor, the range opened a year later, and it was there that the first annual matches were held.
bigbuckfever Report post Posted June 8, 2021 Could be both have merit. ( Remember "it" was about ending slavery and a states rights issue, and 'it" was a desert topping and a floor wax.)
10Turkeys Report post Posted June 8, 2021 The above is what I understood how the NRA started, but it exists now soley for Wayne to have some fine suits, to shuttle his relatives and minions around, plug an Elephant or two, and to have enough dirt on the rest of the board that they won't get rid of him, and wanted to set him up in a 6 mil house in Dallas for his protection, on the memberships dime.
Edge Report post Posted June 9, 2021 A lot of records indicate the Union Army during the US Civil War couldn't hit a bear.in the butt with a handful of rice. A thousand rounds on average of musket ball were lobbed at Confederates per enemy fatality. Took 84 canon rounds to produce a kill.
