First Archery Coues!

I got my first archery coues Sunday morning! Here is the story:

We started by getting up that morning. I got my clothes on and got ready. We packed up, and walked down the road a little ways. Then we started down to our spot. We got there and it was still pitch black. I went in to the blind to get my chair set up. My head lamp was on, and all of the sudden a bee came buzzing around the light. It startled me, and I dropped the head lamp. I am guessing the bee followed the light, and landed on the pad on the head lamp that touches your forehead. I put my head lamp back on, and I felt sharp pain in my forehead. I ran out of the blind trying to whisper: Dad! I just got stung by a bee! My dad was like “What?” He came over and looked at my forehead. We waited a couple minutes to see if I was allergic. I wasn’t, and we continued on with what we were doing. About ten minutes later, we got in the blind. I dozed a little, and I woke up just in time to see a doe coming by. No, two does. Then, about 25 yards away, I saw antler. Then, he vanished. 5 minutes later, he came by out of my shooting lane. He was munching on acorns, and happened to walk just into range at 17 yards. I drew back, picked a spot, and released. I got a complete pass-through, right through both lungs! I watched him bolt down the hill. We gave him plenty of time, and walked down the hill. He ran about 60 yards, but we are guessing he fell the last 10 yards. He is a beautiful little 3 by 3 buck. We haven’t decided what to do with him yet, mount him or do a European mount. Here is a picture. Thanks for reading!

Very few kids your age have the patience to be the hunter that you are, heck most of 'em would run home to mom after the bee sting! Congrats to you on an amazing trophy!

Way to go Troy, I am one proud papa!! It took 6 days to get your archery pig (one shot) and 8 days to get your archery turkey (one shot), so you deserved a quick hunt for a change! I have to tell you guys that I haven't been pushing Troy, he has been pushing the old man! Especially the turkey hunt, I wanted to give up trying to get into the birds, but Troy wouldn't let me. That hunt just about killed the old man off! I think that I'll have to quit hunting so I'll have more time to take Troy hunting. And with his 8 year old brother coming up, I guess I'll just have to quit my job too. Here are a two pictures of Troy's other hunts this year.
