If elk are in the mix, I would look at something .30 cal. .300 RUM, .300 Wby. or .300 win mag will all do what you want with plenty to spare. Large selection of bullet choices to match your game.

I imagine that 30-378 is expensive to shoot. Have to sell the gun to buy the ammo.......

The 7mm Ultra is great elk round! It also has an extremely high Ballistic Coefficient if you are interested in long range hunting/shooting.

The .257 is probably considered by most to be to light for elk. I know others will disagree, but my personal opinion is that even for deer there are numerous better choices, especially if you are interested in extended ranges.

i love my accumark but it is a little heavy and it is kind of expensive to shoot, but i think iam leaning towards the 7mm ultra mag although remington makes a sweet 700 lss 257 weatherby so iam torn,,,,,cbryant

I think the .25 cal is PLENTY for deer, and fits coues just about perfect.

I would not hesitate (in fact I have) to carry a 7rum on a elk hunt. Hits like a ton of bricks, and pushes a 160 grain bullet real fast, and a 140 even faster!

Yes of course a .25 cal is PLENTY for deer. I just believe there are better choices.

I have a 7mm RUM and love it. like others have said it is very flat shooting and very fast. One thing to consider is that unless you reload there are not a lot of choices for ammo out there. I reload so it hasnt been a big deal for me. I believe that the 300RUM has a few more factory ammo options out there than the 7RUM. Just something to consider. Either of these are great. If you do get a 7rum or a 300rum I wil suggest a muzzle break as they do kick a bit with nearly a 100 gr of powder.

I shot a bull 3 years ago with my 7mm RUM and it did a great job. I shot him in the neck as he was facing me. Unbelievable penetration. I was shooting 160 grn Nosler partitions. I think they are around the 3200-3300 fps with the 26" barrel.

get a .270. then you're good from chipmunks to rhinos. might be a hair light for timba. but as long as you're good shot, it'll work. Lark.
