Schmitty Report post Posted August 25, 2008 As the name of the post implies, which is your preference? I've always shot w/ my left eye closed, and find that I'm a bit more precise on close shots w/ one eye open. However, back it up a bit, throw in some shadows, 3-D targets, etc. I find that with both eyes open the much larger FOV allows for much faster sight acquisition, positioning, etc. with no real significant loss in accuracy. I often find myself keeping both eyes open to settle in on the target and then close the left eye once I've got my "spot" picked out and settle in and let her rip. Just curious as to what everybody else was doing? thanks, Schmitty
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted August 25, 2008 I have never been able to figure out how to keep both eyes open!! I just keep the left one closed..... and make the best of it!
BowNut Report post Posted August 25, 2008 I do a little of both. I have shot with one eye closed since I started shooting a bow or gun until last year. Most of the time I close one eye but at a 3D tournament or at the range I shoot with a blinder clipped to my hat so I can shoot with both eyes open. It may look a little goofy but I see much better with them both open. I was told that when you close one eye weather you know it or not the other will close some also making your vision decrease in your eye you have open. That's is why when you go to the eye doctor they have you cover one eye not close one eye to do the eye test. When I shoot with no blinder and both eyes open I have to keep closing my left eye because as I look at the target it starts to double up on me and get blurry. When hunting or just out shooing with the boys I just close one like I have for years.

mattobertin Report post Posted August 25, 2008 I shoot the exact way you do and can shoot well both ways but when I close my left eye I find I concentrate more and am more accurate. In quick draw situations if you can shoot with both eyes open you have a better field of view like you said.
