Mullins boys do it again!

Recommended Posts

maybe if the forum pitched in a couple of bucks we could buy Jim a satellite phone with picture mail, that way we wouldn't be mercilessly teased by the 48-72 hour wait period it takes him to pack up his @#%$ and get home....

I held the antlers this morning and the bottom bull is him. One of his antlers comes off of his skull six inches below the other. He scored a little over 405". He has unbelievable mass and tine length.

What a hunt! To start with everyone needs to save there typing I already know that my dad is the luckiest guy on earth to win that elk raffle. He just got home on monday and is taking the elk to Lyons and Ohaver in Sandiego to get mounted today. We had an awesome hunt with Jim and Matt and also Christian makes some mean salsa. We went up towards the end of July and stayed nearly the whole time untill He killed Sunday evening. We scouted every inch of unit 9 and Jim and Matt took us along as they set up trail cams which we checked each afternoon. Jim and Matt know that unit like the back of their hand and they are some hard working dudes. What a great bunch of guys and a great bull. I dont know much about scoring but he was just a freak toad of a bull that my dad loved. I am like you all....... waiting for Jim since he took about an hour and a half of photos and we dont even have any yet ourselves. The rain obviously didnt help but it sure was an awesome feeling to stand outside glassing while the rain came down. We completely totaled out my dads truck on all those muddy roads. We found the bull on saturday night about a mile away in a medow rolling around in the dirt, which we have great video of. Dad was on another 400 at the time that he ended up passing on. like I said before, I cant really score em so I took the video back that night and let the pros look at it. Matt and Jim and Christian each looked at the video and gave estimates of 404,407,408 off of the video, he came in right around 405, they are amazing at what they do! The next day we found him again but he was beded deep in the jungle with no shooting lanes and all we could see was his horns move about every five minutes. After the Mullins vetoed my suggestion that we use the Storm Trooper Method we backed off and made a plan to get him in the evening. That is exactly what they did, he fed out, they worked in about 400 yards and Jim said what distance do you feel comfortable shooting at? Dad said he was so excited that when he threw the gun up it was shaking so much that he said gonna need to be closer than this. They snuck in about as close as they could, 300 yard, and dad made a great shot.

Thanks again to the Mullins they are a great bunch of guys. We spent almost a month camping and hunting with them and I could spend another month with no hesitation.

Holy Cow there are a ton of Rabbits up there! I would also love to go shoot coyotes. We probably saw at least 3 coyotes per day and heard a ton they are thick up there.

Talked with Christian yesterday and he is staying up there through the weekend to get in some archery deer hunting and possibly some more scouting. The other guys are fair game though :P
