I was ,wondering if there is some really great idea's on some good theft proof idea's on protecting personal trail camera's . I read over and over , about cameras being stolen on water holes and even place's , you wouldn't think a human being would hike down into. If you really think about it one camera cost $ 200.00 to $300.00 , plus battery's and a SD card , thats big bucks , but cheap to a theif .I have four camera's out now , with sign's on them that state if you take this one , I will definetly have your picture on the other three . I hate the idea , I spend more time hiding them , then concentrating on good veiw shots ! Camera concept is all new to me , so times change ,so must I.

So far my method has worked well for me....knock on wood.... i decided where i want it and make sure its so nasty that i never want to go get it, hike down until it seems im not gonna ever make it back out, and then place it. typically i can glass these areas from afar and would hunt them assuming they are gettin good photos, or i am seeing good deer. Mine now is in a heck hole so bad i was 2 miles away the other day and decided against checking it. also working on a deterant fake box that will make folks everywhere think twice before opening a lock box

Word on the street is that in Gila county there are a group of teenagers & young adults armed with cordless grinders stealing anything they come across... I don't know if that is true, but if so.... there is no theft proof method that will beat a grinder......

Try putting them in a heavy metal box with USFW stenciled on them.

when my "theft deterrant" box is done, it WILL make the woods alot safer for trail cams. I promise, not only mine but if the word gets out they WILL think twice before checking another one. Soon to be finished.

Im not sure on the legalities of it but honestly i dont care anymore im sick of hearing about people gettin their crap stolen. I will attempt to get a video of it in work....should be great...hilarious actually to say the least. They wanna play dirty ill play dirty back

I heard somewhere #4 buck is a great deturrent to cordless grinder weilding theives. I lock my stuff up just to keep the honest guys honest. I also try and keep them far enough in and secluded enough that the guys haulin bolt cutters cant get in. I use a custom one enterprises lock box with a python lock on my expensive camera. On my 50 and 100 dollar wildviews i use 1/4 in aircraft cable with a padlock. Any guy packin a hatchet or bolt cutters can steal ANY of my rigs. I've heard of guys cutting down trees to get a camera. Camera theives are the same as any other theif. They don't care how much stuff they have to tear up to get to your goodies.

I'm thinking of adding a time delay relay and spray can that shoots pepper spray within an unspecified time the cover is removed or the can is tilted more than 90 degrees.....may not stop them, but the pics on the other cams should be entertaining and they would think about doing it a second time.

That was my first idea, but do you think they are actually gonna leave the camera/ at least intact/ after that happens. Another problem is most effective pepper spray comes out in a stream not mist. I have perfected the idea only cheaper....i just have to finish it. couple random dummy boxes and unsuspection theives and the word will get out. Also posting on the box, CAUTION DO NOT OPEN!

There's been a few stolen this year here in Alaska.Im fortunate enough to have been so far out in the middle of no where,mine where never stolen,unless you count when the bear's ate one and the other one was pulled off the tree.

 

I did have a fella tell me this year he glued pieces of bark on his to catch ppl who have been messing and stealing at his bait station.He never had another one stolen and he was able to turn in a couple of fellas.

Guys look at this link, this looks like a good idea. set a trip wire that will spray paint 50' when tripped.

Duck tape it to the tree.
