I was just reminiscing about past experiences and thought I would share this. Way north of Scottsdale and east of Carefree where the Tonto NF borders both, there is a major forest access road. Around 30 years ago I was heading north on said road and came over a rise and there in the road not 100' in front of me was a small herd of white tail deer. I stopped and we just stared at each other for a few seconds before the turned and ran down a canyon. I sat there for a moment thinking that I could not have seen that since I understood that there were no white tails around here, yet there they were. I've spent a lot of time in the deserts around here and even in the woods north of me and have not seen them again yet. I wasn't dreaming, drinking or "doing" illicit substances, I saw what I saw.
