  1. Perseid meteor shower peaks tonight (thurs) and tomorrow morning. High potential for large numbers of meteors and the extra impressive fireballs. http://gizmodo.com/how-to-watch-the-exceptional-perseid-meteor-shower-toni-1785145218 You can go watch them on your own or go to an event like this one at Lost Dutchmen state park. But I think the peak is tonight and not friday night, so perhaps better to go on your own with the family somewhere tonight. Luckily I will be out on the san carlos rez doing surveys so it should be perfect viewing for us Friday August 12 –Perseids ‘Meteor Madness’ at Lost Dutchman State Park Beer grotto 8-9pm, Sky-Watching All-Nighter The annual Perseid Meteor Shower peaks this week and could bring a once-in-a-lifetime rain of shooting stars to Arizona skies; Lost Dutchman State Park hosts a Friday all-nighter of sky-watching hosted by Steve Kates (‘Dr. Sky’) with shooting-star viewing from midnight til-dawn. Festivities begin just after dark with an 8-9pm beer grotto (craft brews sponsored by Lagunitas Brewing, and snacks), then 9–10pm presentation on meteor shower and asteroids. Tickets are $20 per person – which includes park entry; minors accompanied by a ticketed adult are free. If they’re not all booked by now, for an additional $15 you can reserve an overnight tent camping spot near the event.
