Building a boat for Lee's Ferry

I have wanted a boat to use a Lee's Ferry for a while. A long while. In fact, I hiked 50 miles through Paria Canyon with scouts in 1982 or so, and we came out at Lee's ferry. I remember seeing fishermen pulling trout out that were bigger than I had ever seen-- by a factor of 2 or 3. I have wanted to fish there ever since. So 40+ years later I finally bought the shell of a boat that I think might work. It is a 90's Alumacraft. 16 feet long. But no motor. See picture below. The boat has a rated capacity of 5 people and 1240 lbs. And the recommended horsepower range is between 15-45HP. I would like to be able to take me and a couple of my friends or adult kids all the way up river, and maybe even take a little camping gear if possible. I would also to be able to use it on the mountain lakes when I get the time--- those that are restricted to electric or 9.9 hp motors. And I would like to keep the boat as light as possible-- since I don't have a lot of horsepower in my tow vehicle. My first idea was to just buy a 9.9 HP motor that I can also use on mountain lakes and go for it. However, I am a little worried that 9.9 won't be enough to get me and my friends upriver. My second idea is to get an older 2 stroke motor in the 15-25 HP range. One that might even be light enough to easily remove or swap out for 9.9 or smaller when I want to. But even then I am little worried. I see that NPS requires 25HP or more when the water flow is high. In either case I would probably convert the boat to tiller steer, just because it is simpler and easier. So does anyone have any thoughts and recommendations for this? Thanks Jared

    Fish stockings

Has anyone noticed the absence of fish stockings by the game and fish. Me and my father were talking while fishing up at Horseshoe . He was saying they only stocked the valley lakes twice and last time was in December. And the birds eat most of them when they hit the water so half gone.and 1 catfish stocking all year. And there much smaller. I noticed up here at Green valley lake has a month gap between stocking. So we were told smaller keep limet of 4 and bigger fish. Haven't noticed bigger fish yet. Thoughts

    Sold...Please delete

Looking to sell my Alumacraft, bought the boat with hopes of one day fixing her up. Now I have two youngins and nagging wife. My hopes and dreams have sailed to sea. Don’t know much about the boat except what my dads old neighbor told me...no leaks and runs strong. I bought the boat 4 years ago and never ran it. Steering cable needs replaced for sure. Wood seems solid, needs new carpet. Has two live wells. Storage under the seats. Storage behind front deck and two gas cans. Trolling motor up front did work. Could use love. I have another mini Kota(new out of box) I’d throw in for the right deal. Would have to verify but believe it’s a 35lb thrust. Has a 50hp Mercury Outboard. Looking to get $1500 obo. Comes with some life jackets, couple anchors. Not in a huge rush to sell. Located in Florence. Thanks

    DucketT Fishing Rods

I have 2 nearly brand new Duckett Micro Magic fishing rods - 7.6 ft (heavy) and 7.10 ft (extra heavy). They have only been used a few times by the prior owner - I have not used them once. They have been an awesome office decoration for the past year, but unfortunately nothing more than that. ***Reels are not included*** I would prefer to sell them both at the same time (which would mean bundle pricing cuts for the potential buyer). These rods new are about $160 each. I would be willing to part with them for $225 together. If sold separately, I will do them as $150. PM me if interested. They need a better home ... like in a boat!

    Fishing shirt with SPF

I stumbled upon these fishing shirts and decided why not since they were cheaper than others. Great designs, fast shipping. Can't have too many fishing shirts, right? Here are the specs and website to check them out. http://www.wickedcatchgear.com/#_l_gh Sun Protection : 50 UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) Moisture Wicking Antimicrobial Lightweight So, I recieved the shirt in the mail on a Friday at 4:30 PM, I made up some excuse to the girlfriend so I could wait for the mailman to take them with us fishing for the weekend. Saturday morning we get up at 6 AM and didn't come back to the dock until it was dark. All I can say is that this is the best shirt I have used fishing, no sunburns or any redness and had a small tan. I can say enough about these shirts. I have a couple of other shirts and my favorite used to be the Columbia shirts because of the breathability, but this blow them out of the water. As soon as I got home, I ordered 3 more. Check these shirts out if you are out on the lake all day and don't want to put on the oily sunscreen, you won't be disappointed. http://www.wickedcatchgear.com/#_l_gh

    Some new photos from May

For Mother's Day this year, my son & his girlfriend took me kayaking on the Salt River. The horses never cease to amaze me, but this was the first time I've kayaked through the middle of the herd. I couldn't have asked for a better Mother's Day gift than this. Plus a very nice man took our picture with a drone and e-mailed it to us. I'm the one in the back teaching my grandbaby dog how to ride on a kayak. I was sure hoping he wasn't taking pictures at first because Koa needed a little time to get used to riding on the kayak and it was a bit of an embarrassing adventure at first. I really don't know what to say, but what a cute smile (please zoom in on this one) These were taken during my feeble attempt at turkey hunting this year. I was supposed to go a different time, but ended up at the Tucson Mule Deer Federation Banquet and was so glad I did. I've never been to a banquet like that before and they do absolutely wonderful things for the mule deer in our state! It was almost better than turkey hunting, but not quite...lol I did manage to see the end of a rainbow (my first) while turkey hunting, lots of deer & elk, and quite a bit of snow but I struck out in the turkey department. REPTILES I recently came across this Gila Monster. I can still count on one hand how many I've seen in the wild. Patch nose snake that had recently eaten another snake (notice the lumpy body). Invasive soft shell turtle I caught with my fishing pole Glossy snake & I thought the picture of me taking this picture was kinda neat so I'm including it too. I do have a long lens, but I still have to get somewhat close. Greater Earless & Desert Spiny lizards A very angry Gopher Snake Photographed on foot at 50 yards (not by the lakes - this was a different unit). It was interesting. They are so different than deer or elk. I felt like I was their zoo and it was me they came to see. The little guy was a complete stitch to watch. He was running and jumping everywhere. Sure was fun to watch. And finally this summer don't forget to TAKE A KID FISHING!
  22. Trying to buy a online fishing license keeps giving me a error really making me mad!!!! any suggestions
  23. I had a great time taking my kids out to Horton Creek for some exercise and further introduction to the wonderful out doors. Every time I go out with them, it reminds me that I should do it more often. We started out at the Horton Creek trailhead outside of Payson. I live in Gilbert, and it is exactly 2 hours, door to trailhead. Perfect for kids between 3 and 10. Level ground, water, beautiful views. Look closely at one of the pics, it is wet on one side, and dry on the other. That is because the stream disappears into the ground. You could actually hear a draining sound- it was cool, and the kids loved it. I also ran into the biggest wasp I have ever seen. Oh, and caught a little stock rainbow in the process (we threw it back). It was a great day.
  24. I am selling a 2005 RT11 pop up starcraft trailer. It is one that you put your quad on the front and is equipt with 15" mudder tires. It has a toilet, sink, heater, 2 showers ( indoor and out) stove inside gas grill out side, very good shape not used much that's why I'm getting rid of it so I can get an out fitters tent. Great for the hunts and family . Hooks right up to 4 wheel drive hitch. I have a dodge 1500 with 32 s and I us a straight hitch, great ground clearance. Thanks
