  1. Hunter's hunt started on wed afternoon with some scouting. In 40 mph winds we did not see a deer..... Thursday morning we were out in the rain before sun light. We did not see a deer one... The rain stopped around 11 and the deer were everywhere... Hunter said he wanted a coues deer and would not shoot a mule deer even though his tag was for any antlered deer. We found this buck Thursday night we glassed up a monster bear, so I went after it... Along the way, my 300 wsm got banged up pretty baddly. I got 622 from the bear but no shot; it got dark. After a pretty scetchy climb out of a bad spot I finally returned to the ranger around 9:00 Friday morning we hiked into our glassing spot in the dark. After glassing several small bucks and a ton of does my buddy Jay said the magic words, I have two good bucks". The deer were over two miles away. After a good hike we were sitting 540 yards from a 110 and a 90 inch buck. My son hunter laid down behind the 300 wsm And I dialed it up for 550. Jay kept saying what a huge buck it was, and I gave him the shut up look! First shot... Hits high! I was sure itwas hunt and not the gun. Second shot hits just over the deers back! The big buck walks up the hill slowly and beds. The second buck beds next to him. We regroup and reload. The bucks are now at 578 yards bedded. We have a quick chat about the first shots... Hunter says, " dad i was rock solid! Your gun is off. I said, " impossible"! We take one more shot and yep you guessed it, just high. The 110 5x4 buck walks off into a thick. To my surprise the 90 inch just stayed bedded. After more discussion about trying to find the big buck later hunter decided to shoot the smaller buck. At 578 I dialed my gun for 500 due to all the high shots. Wack.. Done deal. We did not get the 110, but what a great memory! We hiked the dear out and checked the gps. 4.9 miles. I would say he earned it. I want to thank Jay wyatt for all his help. I would never tell him, but he is a glassing machine! I shot the gun at a target today and it was 5 inches high at 200 yards! Mad is an understatement.... O well. Good times had by all. Good times, good memories!
