My first year predator hunting, Had no spots and no experience, so after picking my uncles brain, lots of miles on the truck and getting a fox pro for my 17th bday I got a few predators thinned out. Never ended up getting my goal of a bobcat or lion but Now I have a life long obsession when I got no tags or hunts going on.

went out scouting for pigs this weekend. After what was a pretty slow day of scouting we decided to make a couple of stands. Called in a coyote to the first spot, but he smelled something that was not quite right and headed for the hills. went down the road to a spot with a couple of small canyons... I told my buddy, " we are going to call a fox here". He said, How do ya know?" My response was, " I'm smart like a fox!" At around the 10 min mark this guy came in to 89 yards across the small cut. let's just say that a 6.5 PRC is a bit much for fox..... Pin hole going in, and softball coming out.. Whitey-->

Mercer Cage Traps and everything else you need to start trapping
Critter posted a topic in Classified Ads
As much as I hate to part with these items it only makes sense at this point. I have 2 young kids and another one on the way and trapping will likely be put on the backburner for a few years until my kids are a little older and I can take them out. I'll still do a fair share of pred calling in the meantime. Need room in the garage as well. Everything you see in these pics were used about 6 weeks only before my dad got terminally ill and I literally had to abandon my new hobby. It is all basically brand new and the traps work perfectly and still have the paint on them. Again, only used for a few weeks. Save yourself some money if you are planning on getting into trapping as this is a great package deal. Mercer traps are about the best there is out there. So up for sale: Set of 4 Mercer Traps (new are $390) Ausable brand bobcat urine from pcs website x 2 (new $30) Approx 7 different lures, some of it used mostly or half full bottles (new approx $50) 60" briarpatch catchpole (new $45) One Eyed danglers for back of cage (set of 12 $55 new from briarpatch) Bucket/tools/repair wire/wrench for tightening tension/pre cut black plastic/mini shovel rake, misc items (about $50 in gear or more) + Shipping if all this was bought online Basically this is the perfect start up Kit for a new trapper or someone that wants to add cages/equipment to their arsenal. There is literally nothing you need to buy that I can think of. It's all ready to go. If you add up the value of everything new it is around $620 or likely more. I am asking $475 Obo for everything. Trapping season is upon us so now is a good time to get prepared. Was going to post on CL as well but will wait and see if a CWT member is interested. In Prescott Valley ---Nate- 8 replies

I want to get out and find some more good places to hunt. I also want to be productive when I'm out looking for new places. What do you look for when finding new coyote (and other predators) habitat? What types of water sources are best? How far from water? Close to roads? Far back in? Certain vegetation or terrain? Do you hike around and look for sign? Drive around calling and listening at night? Now that you have found good habitat, what do you look for when choosing locations to make stands? I'm based out of Mesa, so most of the time I'm chasing predators in Sonoran desert type terrain on day trips. I'm not asking where you hunt, I'm asking for tips on the best way for me to find places to hunt.

Figured I'd share a couple from the last two weeks. I've got tons of bear pics from over the years from these two trick tanks but these are more recent. Also some fox, mulies, and a bobcat. Plus hundreds of other elk and deer pics.

We had some boys in town from Missouri for a predator calling trip. I asked them if they'd like to go after coyotes, fox, bobcat or a lion. Of course they said they'd like to get a lion while they were here (as if it's that easy). Then - one of them jokingly said "hey, let's get one of each". I said, that's a tall order in 2.5 days - let's get rolling pronto.... Well - we got 3 of the 4. Started out on day one with a coyote on the opening stand. A mix of coyote vocals and small prey distress closed the deal: Picked up and hauled butt for a place to get a fox with thick fur and lots of red in the coat. Found the right one on day two: Stayed in generally the same area and called the deep wooded cuts for a bobcat. As day 2 was coming to a close - bam - here he comes to a mix of young female coyote vocals, rodents, birds, a rabbits and - boom - down he goes: Evidently the half day we had left just wasn't enough time for me to get a mountain lion called up too. Oh well. It certainly wasn't for a lack of effort. All were called with a Wildlife Technologies Might Atom 21 electronic call. All were shot with DPMS Compact Hunter rifles. It probably goes without saying - yes - those are items we stock at HEALY. And, if you've never heard a Mighty Atom e-caller - do yourself a favor and come on in for a demo. Please bring your current caller with you for comparison's sake. It's time to hear what your predators have been missing.
