Last week I had the pleasure of spending a few days in some rough country with my boy on a backpack trip. It was a left over tag and with direction from a good friend, (thanks Mason) we managed to tough it out enough for my son to take his first Coues. It was bedded at 400 yards and he made a great one shot kill. I was extremely worried how he would do packing all that we needed for those three days, but I didn't have to worry. He was extremely tough, didn't complain and had a great attitude. He kept saying he was going to kill one that was bigger than all of mine, but when it came down to it, he was happy to shoot this buck on the 3rd day. As most young boys are, he had a hard time being patient enough to glass, so he would ask me questions about survival, try a few survival techniques out, throw rocks, ask me questions about life and be a boy.
All in all I was extremely fortunate to spend this time with my son, make some memories, teach him some of the little I know and bond with my oldest boy. We had some great tent conversations, cooking over a small stove and rationing water and food.
Enjoy a few pictures.
