    I gotta Know..... ATV Use....

I spent hours walking around the criss-cross quad tracks in one of my for sure horn spots.... yesterday was the first time I have EVER been skunked in there. One of the lazy dirt bags was out there while I was and I praying that he would ride up on me!! To me guys that tride there ATVs cross country to hunt horns (today with all the talk and "don't tread on me info") are just like people that buy beer and soda pop with food stamps!!! Now, I won't lie... I have chosen to be lazy before.... I blame my past laziness on how I was not brought up as a trophy hunter, I was raised as a meat hunter, and you just didn't shoot meat that you could get the truck too... and that I was not educated about stewardship of the forests... ...but that did not stop me from getting educated on the issues at hand and becoming a better person/outdoorsman. I love having the ablity to use crosscountry travel to speed the extraction of meat from the field or even to cut firewood (IF done responsibly)... but all that is on the verge of going away because of the lazy B*st**ds that won't get off their ATV's.... I found a white horn yesterday not 250 yards form my Ranger that was parked on a road! ... and yet every inch of flat EASY walking or hilly country out ther has fresh ATV tracks on it???? I am sorry but those that are doing it are PATHETIC!!!!!!! Also a personal obsevation..... I most of the tracks apear to be stock Polaris tires.... .... also the Silverish/goldish colored GMC w/ the red quad (Polaris, I think) that was parked closer to the Hwy than my truck was.... .... I crossed your tracks several times.... I hope I catch you driving cross counrty ... While I am at it how bout the guys that know there was a "hidden water hole" off of the roads and have to make a road to it???? Sure would be nice if every water source out there did not have a road to it you Lazy Dirt Bags!!! Okay... I feel better now.... sorta.

    Pick Up Head Law

Wan't there a thread on here a while back that clarified the rule??? Seems we hear this every year but it truely means nothing... I seen a hair on 340-350 class elk head going down the highway last week on a trailer with a quad.... ... those boys didn't look too worried about the law!

So if we pay it, do we get access to ALL state trust land??? I mean come on... if they have our name, our hunting info, and our money.... why not?

    2X2 or 90 incher

I voted 90"er w/rifle.... This is why.... As a first time coues hunter I would have cut off my left arm to get a whack at either one! ....Coincidently my first ever coues was a Forky w/ a bow and my second was a 90"er with my rifle... However, now with many archery coues under my belt I would not dream of shooting a forky with any weapon (unless I HAD to have meat)... I'd rather let them grow a bit. Both of the critters you listed in this poll are Trophies, IMO.... but down the road, we all evolve and grow and so do our expectations. I want those lil' guys to be my next No Brainer..... so I pass, but once upon a time that Forky was my No Brainer! So, what I am saying is don't let my vote sway your thoughts.... your pole is subjective... Yes, by all means shoot the First Forky that walks by, Get Bloody!! The only way to know that you won't choke or blow it on the Buck of a Lifetime is to have succeeded on a few smaller ones first! Best of luck! ...and Good Hunting!!

How Would You Hunt This Coues Spot?

Great input and thread! I'd have to say that most of you ahve very good points and plans!! Here is my $.02.... I'd do my glassing from the West ridge from one of the 3 yellow glassing spots.... which ever one gave me the best look at the water sources as well as a view into those brushy cuts.... I would sit that one best glassing spot (of the three on the West ridge) all day..... if I liked what I saw I might even do it for two days.... and then a third. If I did not like what was happening or what I saw.... or after 3 days.... I might consider the blue line and yellow glassing points.... for a day, IF I was sure that the area held big deer...

    Dec. and Jan. pics

I finally made it out to check a camera that I put out in Mid Dec. in what seemed to be a travel corredor. Well mostly elk pics during the month that the Battery lasted but there were a few highlights!!!! This guy is out aweful late! I want this one!!! I may have to put some effort in that area next year for this buck!!! And this guy strolled in and the camera almost missed him! After replacing the batteries and the card, me and Zip went on a walk about.... anytime a find a coues shed it was a Great day!!! Too bad it was like over a mile from my Camera!!

    GET 'R' DONE

You guys Crack Me up!!! If you are gunna talk music... How about Manditory Metallica (Pronounced Met-Tally-Caaaa...!) on Sirus Radio Ch. 27!!!! Give Me Fuel- Give Fire- Give Me That Which I Desire...... Larry, I'm guilty of that Drinkin' tooo much thing as well.... Just not on the Computer.... .... You'll have to get help from GameHauler on that one.... I'd say bring a fork and some coues sheds to lunch!!! Also, that coues collection is lookin' great! That is what make you the East Side Deer Slayer!! I'm guessing that collection looks much bigger and better in person... and I really want one of those Coati's with my bow!! But hold the Phone...I can buy into the old Conquest (great bow), but 50 lbs???? Come on.... I figured you for a 65-70 lb guy??? Is it time for a little more Ensure... or maybe some Geritol??? Rock on Dude!!!

    Holy Side Rack, Batman!!

Colton called me today at work and asked where I was at... and he was Excited!! "BIG Coues shed!" he said. He had gone lookin' for brownies in a place known for elk and carp deer... and what does he find??? Coues!! That's my Boy!! What makes this horn even better is the fact that he found it not 50 ft from where he jumped the previous owner of the horn and his 100+ inch buddy!!! He saw the two bucks (and the big one is better this year than the shed) and after they moved on he walked over to where they were and found this side rack!! What a day... and I'm guessing I know where he is putting in for deer first choice!!! I put a quick tape on it tonight and the side should score between 55" -57 1/2"... I have a couple of issues on the mass and will check with Clay on them next week... but is a Toad either way!!! These are not great pics, but Colton does not have small hands.... and the beam is 20 1/8.

    wanted

Lots of choices... I have used the Stihl 029 & 310's for work and home use... I really like the 310 that I have now, but they all can have isues...they are 2-strokes... My son runs saws for the Forest Service and they use Stihl as well. I know that Sacks-Dolmar has just come out with a new line that looks Really good and back in the day there wasn't a saw around that could hang with or beat my Dad's ol' Sacks 133... so check them out as well. Good luck... FYI.... if you buy a cheap saw try to buy a shorter bar and chain for it... most cheap saws are under powered, so by reducing the number of teeth you can run an under powered saw much better.

    I gotta Know..... ATV Use....

I am impressed that few people are answering the poll questions honestly... that is why the polls are anonymous.... I just can't understand what you guys that are just out for a cross country tour are thinkin'..... I mean really... the only places that you are going are the easiest places to walk.... are you lazy, handicapped, or just flat inconsiderate?? I know that there are a lot of guys doing it.... but really we are responsible for our actions and we are loosing rights because people don't use comon sense... I do think that crimnal damage is a bit severe on the retaliation, but quite honestly I think all stupid people should be Shot or Cained.... let God sort 'um out.... and that way we can strengthen the gene pool abit in this country. I know.... far fetched but lets get real... it is hundreds of little things like this that collectively drive the nails into the top of our coffin of freedoms. Get on board!! Be a viable member of the hunting community... we have all made mistakes, and moved on to be better people.

    I gotta Know..... ATV Use....

I think it is coming.... which is a real shame.... but since folks can't be responsible they are gonna take that as well as shut down all un-numbered roads.... We are victim's of our own stupidity....

    Holy Side Rack, Batman!!

Yeah, I have Colton convinced not to go back for the other side till the buck drops this years set, that way there will be 3- 50"+ sides laying out there! We will put up cameras then... he has his mind made up that that is the buck he wants to kill this fall!!

    MONSTER!

ACC's also deliver more energy and deeper pentration... I hate how easy they are to ruin, but I love how they kill!! I, too, shoot the 3-49's..... Adam, How smooth is the Monster?? Zero hand shock?????? Is it critical????

    Take it or leave it

Mr. J, I can honestly say that I never have and never will walk away from a head that I find (although I have only found a 1/2 Dozen in my whole life).... I look at it like this: 1) It does no one any good laying out there in the woods.... and the next guy that finds it will pick it up! 2) I have clear conscience that I personally had nothing to do with the death of the animal. 3) 50% of the time I can deduce exactly what probably happened to the animal and 50% of the time it will remain a mystery... 4) If it does still have hair on and I run into one of the WM's before I get the hair off.... then I will explain my find and take them to the location that I found it.... If they don't like what they see then they can confiscate it and it will be sold at auction. Still better than rotting away to nothing out in the woods. 5) IMO, very few of the WM's are interested in confiscating your P/U head.... so just don't give then a reason too..... I mean, "don't ask, don't tell" Kind like the three S's if you know what I mean.... 6) Remember that you really have nothing to hide..... and if a head gets confiscated you still have the pics and the memorries! BTW.... Nice find! Congrats!
  24. Spring is in the air... I could smell it today.... Hear is what I was smelling.
