    Held at gunpoint

Does anyone else find it Atrocious that in a country that fancies itself as the "Leaders of the Free World" and the "Greatest Nation on Earth".... we are sooo bound by PC and bleeding hearts that we are (or can be) victims or hostages of peoples from other nations.... on our own soil??? It just Blows me away!!!! I am sorry folks, but if you got drugs (and weapons to protect such drugs)..... you should be shot on site.... those drugs are a poison to our way of life just as much as those who bring them here..... and if they had to run the Apache Gauntlet to get them here.... on our streets and into the hands of our children... they might not be so eager....IMO. Our government should inact a zero tollerence Shoot First, Ask Questions Later at our borders and I bet this deal would change a Bunch!! A coyote is a coyote.... and we know how hunters feel about coyotes..... But... this topic is one of the big reasons I don't hunt that far South....

my 11 year olds first elk, 580 yards

Congrats, Mason & Mason Jr.! Sounds like you two worked your butts off for this hunting season and you started it off with success! Unless I miss my guess on where you were at when you smoked that cow.... I'd say you made the right call to get her while you had the chance.... there ain't elk behind every tree in that country. The smile and the steaks on the table have Success written all over them! ....now it is time for an archery cow tag Mason Jr.!!! Congrats again!!!!

Well sorta.... did not know where to post this....

Well..... It turned out GREAT!!! I got lucky.... the meat came out of the pit and was very Tasty and cooked to perfection!! We had some leftovers (FYI... a 150-175lb hog will feed about 150 peaple if you stuff it with beer brats and veggies). Myself and several members have been enjoying the great leftovers! We consumed as a group nearly 100 gallons of home brewed beers and about 55 new members joined the ranks! Can't wait for the X-mas party/ food drive! Thanks Gary & Mike (Bowhunter4life) for making the trip it was great to see you guys!! The one thing I learned is that pitting a whole haog is a bunch of work.... I had some great help getting that pig butchered, prepared, fire built and tended, and the hog in the hole... it was an adventure!! Best way to eat a hog..... can't wait to do it again!
  5. Need a little Help and Advice..... On how how to prep a whole hog for my deep pit.... and Prayers that it turns out as good as all the turkeys, bear, and pork roasts I have done in it..... I have been told to burn all the Hair off the hog with a weed burner and cook it skin on.... now I have never done a whole/skin on critter in the pit.... so ANY & ALL Help will be cherrished by many folks come Saturday Afternoon at my house. FYI: If in the Rim Country and ar looking for an all you can eat & drink Oktoberfest with a live band???? Let me know.... Noon to 6pm on Saturday... it is a membership drive for the Rim Country Homebrewers Club.... Gunna be a GREAT party!!!! Thanks!

Well sorta.... did not know where to post this....

Thanks all.... the link at TAH worked. TJ, Sounds like you and I pit about the same way! Mine is a 5' deep by 3'x4' solid block and concrete pit.... with 6-8 hours of oak coals I throw a touch of wet mesquite (or in this case apple) in the pity and lowwer my grate.... drop the meat and in 6 1/2 hrs it is perfectly done.... mine being so deep I think the "chamber" above the meat acts like a preasure cooker.... cooks very fast. I can pull the ham bone out a a large bear haunch with little effort in 6-61/2 hours and turkeys fall off the bone when you unwrap them..... man i love pittin'!!! Just a bunch of work... but man is the food good.... Well my research has all led me back to burn the hair off... everyone says it is way easier than scrapin'.... we shall see.... Party starts at noon, the food and band about 1ish.....

    Need Help Fast

Hey guys.... That guy ...... was me.... I got a call to go hunt with my Bro and nephew yesterday on his second opportunity to hunt this tag. Normally we would be using "the Tradition" on a hunt like this.... and infact had we.... we may have come home with a 160-170" mulie... that we had to keep passing shot opportunities at 400 and then finaly lost him in the thick stuff... However on this day my nephew was using a borrowed youth-mod 6mm REM because he has really short arms and stature and has a hard time getting into the adult guns. So me not knowing this gun and having two big forks bedded at 880 yds, knowing that I could get to atleast 350 yds...... dropped a call to Mike to learn as much in a short time as possible.... not because 350 is a far shot, but rather just to feel like I was not just guessing.... and as it was late in the morning this was our last ditch effort to get bloody. We were able to close to 300 yds and get him set up on a rock solid 2 tri-pod rest and sitting on my pack... we waited till he was dead sure he was aiming right were I wanted him to.... Boooom!..... and the bucks just look around.... then jump up and run! A cloud of dust jumped off a rock 6 ft left and 6 ft high of the buck he shot at.... What the heck!!! was the first words out of my mouth.... we walked up the mountain... checked for blood.... found the dead rock.... and then hung our heads and walked the 2 miles back toward the trucks..... Later, we shot the gun at 100 yds and it was most certainly the gun.... it had been dropped somewhere between the range and that ridge we took the shot from.... Moral of the Story.... borrowed guns suck!!! ...unless it is mine! HaHaHa!!! My nephew was pretty bummed.... but not as bummed as my Bro and I were.... Sometimes your the windshield, sometimes you are the bug.... The good news is that my Bro's older son (16) took a 106 gross coues on his first day of hunting this week!! He and his Dad sat on that buck in the baking sun for over 6 hours till he stood for a 250 yd shot! A Mulie, a Thumper late bull, and Whopper Coues all in just a tad over 12 months! He's livin' right!

Str8Shot, Speaking of threats.... You certainly have some growing up to do, and you don't seem to play well with others either. Do your parents know that you sneak onto their computer when they aren't around? Mark Um.... Mark..... I don't think Growing Up is really what is needed. However, it almost seems as though it is like the old addage..... Thou hath felt no scorn like that of a WOMAN! And.... Str8Shot ..."we" may, or may not like you... maybe "we" have not "helped" you like you wanted us to... But I... and many of the members here help LOTS of folks.... maybe not on the open forum, but certainly by way of phone, pm, email, and even in the field... we are here for that reason to share what we can with others while preserving our own hard-earned successes as well. I will continue to help folks as I can, or choose to.... and I will continue to contribute, congratulate, express my discontent with things that don't set with me, and agree with those things that do..... but be contrary and disgracefull to the kindred spirts, my fellow hunters..... that I will not.... we can disagree, we can argue, fight, spit, & cuss.... but at the end of the day I'd take a fellow hunter over some dam gun hatin' Lib in a bar fight any day!

I am sorry... I truely have to say that you, Str8Shot.... are one of the thickest knotheads I have ever had the misfortune to read the opinions of.... I have argued and debated with aniti's that were less "One way'd" than you... Kinda pathetic to me to see a fellow hunter that is so foul toward his own kind. I myself do not aprove of the use of feeders & timers, etc... but not for any reason enough to verbaly trounce my fellow hunters. If I owned enough private land I might have a different opinion..... You sir... are a Master____________, yourself.... and I can plug in a handful of words that would discribe you and your rethoric to a "T"..... Burn on in your hateful little world....
