I love January!!! I ate it all... and loved it!! Oh... and lucky me my Bride cleaned the kitchen for me!! I love that Woman!

If $$$ is the issue I'd say 15's and a mid grade spotter for antler evaluation... For me personally you really need the best of both... I never leave home with out my 15's or my Swaro spotter...

Are hunters managing their own deer herds?
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Chef's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Impossible to Manage public land deer! IMO. That being said.. we try to be selective in our harvests year in and year out in areas we hunt.... making ourselves and the kids pass young "up and coming" bucks.... we try to hold for a Mature buck (that doesn't always happen, but we try....) . We tell the kids to shoot a cull... a big fork w/ eyegards or an old buck with crappy genetices.... Sellective hunting does strengthen the herd and promote a "minimal" chance at a bigger buck next year... but in no way can be even remotely be called management.... more like good conservation. I love letting a 3 1/2 year old coues that is sporting a 90+ inch rack walk on.... I feel good about myself and the deer... however, I am also knowing that the next 5 guys that see that buck are gunna try to let the air out of him... but I know that I practiced what I preach and that the hills I hunt are healthier for my efforts (atleast a percent or two healthier). -

Well I had the pleasure of getting to help a fellow CW.com'er harvest his largest rifle Coues deer to date! I'll keep it short in hopes that he will fill in the blanks. In the 2 1/2 days I hunted with Gary we saw 48 deer. Gary Passed this buck at 350-550 yds (for 20+ minutes) on Saturday and shot him at 625 yds on Monday, but not before the buck had broken 2+ inches of bone off his right beam. A special thanks to my buddy, Bittner, for coming out and sharing the day of hunting and the harvest of the really nice N. AZ deer. Congrats to Gary on a Fine buck and thanks for having me along!
