Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Hunting in Africa
I wanted one (Kudu) so badly... happy that I even saw one as thick as the area we hunted was.... he is not very big but the only bull I had a chance at... did not see the larger bull with him till after the shot. The only 2 bulls we saw in 24 days. -
Sweet! Way to go Tim! The hat is a good one... Mine has seen a lot of dead critters in a month... and a lot of one shot kills!

Well.... I think I am honored to be Roasted while gone... Great Stuff, DB.... Glad to see you pulled out the stops! As for the lion stuff... I too would have thought that the lions were what I would die from over there... however... the Elephants are the most dangerous game we hunted.... and yes... I did nearly need to clean my shorts... once.... -
Dam, I look GOOD! All that walkin' in the hot African sun works wonders!

Way to Go, Brent! Outstanding story and effort on your part! Thanks Amanda for sending me the link for this so I could get caught up!

The Smugglers were quite a laugh for us, but for the CM Safaris it sucks due to the road blockages and the road damage caused by these trucks.... but as long as they are making a 300% profit by moving the beer by this method to Zambia and Mozambique... it will continue.... besides they have to have Zim Gov. help & financing, I'd bet. Trying to pul a rig with a land cruiser... yeah, right! HaHa! Once the got the tractor hooked to the truck the realized they had no reverse on the tractor... now they were both stuck!! As a side note just after this picture was taken 7 (yes 7) women came crawling out of the small sleeper on that rig... -

We saw many things... but while in the Communal lands how the people lived was of great interest to us... we were constantly reminded the fact that we were in a 3rd world country. For the Record I hate photo bucket.... http://s871.photobucket.com/albums/ab271/G.../Things_we_saw/ -

Thanks Eric. We managed to bring home over 25 hours of raw video footage and over 3000 still photos.... I am having a heck of a time sorting through the pics... HaHa! -
I bought a pair fo Kenetrek boots last summer, after almost a year of my buddies telling me to get off my wallet and buy them... I just was not sure that I wanted to spend the $$$.... However, I was having issues with my left ankle and needed to find a good remedy for hunting season. The boots came in the mail and I liked them right away... as the next few months progressed I noticed that the soles were quickly wearing away.... by the end of hunting season they were really worn down..... just on the front (from the beall of my foot forward). Probably how I wallk but considering how much the boots were I contacted Kenetrek and told them my issue... Their response, "Box them up ship them to us and we will contact you if there is any cost for repairing them." So I boxed them up, wrote a note with all my info & what I loved about the boots and what the issue was, then sent them via USPS (cuz it was cheap).... and was starting to wonder if I would ever hear from them as it seemed that several weeks had passed. I got home last night and there was a UPS package at the front door that had Kenetrek printed on the side and it was shipped from Carters Boots & Repair in Bozeman, MT. In the box was my old boots and Brand New soles! ...and not so much as a bill for the return shipping costs... all for free. Awesome! I love the boots... they solved all my ankle issues last year.... they are waterproof 100% clear to the top... (I never waterproofed them last year... they also water proofed them for me)... and the customer service was Outstanding, IMO!! Best Boot I have EVER owned.... Period! Thanks Kenetrek and Carter's!!!

Um....... Being that I finally drew a great bull tag in AZ I thought it fitting to ask for info on where to start looking.... Now I'll have 7 months to search (after my return from Africa) and I just need you all to point me in the right direction....But I don't wanna know your secret spot or nothing... However GPS cords would be greatly appreciated as would photos of what a "good" elk looks like. Thanks in advance I know there are a lot of great people here and I look forward to your help on this great hunt! Sorry....just wanted to be the first E-Scouter of the 2010 season!!!!

Guys, I have got to tell you as I am preparing to my trip to Africa, Eric at Payson Outfitters has been a key part of my preparation. Everything from making my Eberlestock accessories (that I already previously purchased from him) work on the Professional Camera backpack I'm taking... to accessorizing almost every piece of gear I am taking along... batteries and chargers that will allow me to charge in a vehicle or a at generator... and not to mention the Awesome new Badlands belt pack (fanny pack )... that I am going to use to help lighten my load and increase my mobility... Eric has been there every step of the way. He is single handedly responsible for insuring that I am using the Best camera equipment, and even advice on where to buy the High def tapes for the video, on this once in a lifetime opportunity... that is far and beyond just Payson Outfitters, it is a direct reflection of the man behind the scenes. I have known Eric a long time, I have even done some work for him in the past and we have always gotten along great, but I assure you as Payson Outfitters he is an element of your hunt you can't afford to do without!! He has so much stuff that a guy needs, especially for me right now, going so far from home and being gone for a month straight... I can't risk that I don't have the best and can count on it! I am taking multiple pack setups, all of which are accessorized by, or are bought from Payson Outfitters and tons of other gear as it is my responsiblity to capture every moment of this adventure on video or still photo... I can't afford to fail my friend/client (who is hunting his Big 4) or myself on a trip to the middle of nowhere in Northern Zim.... I am greatfull to Eric for all he has done to help me be prepared!!! So check out.... http://www.paysonoutfitters.com/servlet/StoreFront .... I do! .....and I know I can count on their customer service, their pricing, and the quality of their gear! Good luck on the Draw!! I bought the Eberlestock Blue Widow (w/ zip in duffle) from Eric for backpack hunts and packing out elk and deer this season!!

I left Eric's house yesterday evening with the last gear I needed to finish packing for my trip.... and some fresh Homemade cookies and jerky!! Thank You, Deb! Off to Africa!!! Cheers!

James you are Very Welcome.... we were glad to help.... Colton had nothing better to do anyhow... Too bad he didn't have the big white horns with him yesterday they all make that set look weak.... The one he got the other day scores 176 6/8 on the one side. Take care, Friend. Watch out for those snow drifts! -
Thanks Everyone! I actually leave tomorrow at 6:30 AM for the Airport.... Gotta over night in DC because I bargin shopped my flights.... I'll meet up with my friend, Ron, in Jo-berg, SA.... on Saturday the 10th and then we will fly to Harare, Zim. where we over-night and catch a bush flight out to the Dande North concession for 23-24 days of Dangerous game hunting.... Casey, I will be videographer and hunter on this trip... the video footage of Ron's big 4 (I am hoping we go for big 5), will be my first priority... in between I will be hunting Plains Game and am under some preasure from Ron to shoot a Cape as well, so we shall see if he twists my arm hard enough or not....LOL I will return home on may 7th just in time for (May 8th) the huge grand opening of Chasin' a Dream Outfitters in Payson... The Rim Country's New Archery Pro Shop (and soon to be CW.com Sponsor).... so come hang out with us over there and be the first to hear some of my Africa Stories!!! Hope to see you all there bring your bows to shoot in the indoor lanes!! Thanks All!! I am super excited about this trip!! My son Colton has been out alot this year getting in shape for fire season, chasing lion hounds that belong to his Girl Friend, Amber, and looking for sideracks.... he has struggled on the brown bones, but atleast all the ones he's finding are good ones! A match set of Carp... he tracked the buck for about 100 yds before finding the other side... Here is a pic of Amber with a side that Colton also found a white match set off of.... the bull is smaller this year... he has tried to find the other side but we are thinking it might be broke and there for hard to find... Coltons largest Brown set to date.... I just taped it at 360 2/8" (giving 38" spread.... which I really think that is going to be close). This is a bull that put on a ton inches last year and we are hoping for more this year! How bout this burr??? And last but not least... I have not been out much but here is a set that Me and Zip picked up on a 6 mile loop a week or so ago.... Wish I was wearing my Kenetreks that day!! Made my day!
