Prayers needs "Family lost a son"
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Santana Outdoors's topic in Prayer Requests
Mike was a Fantastic young man.... a star athlete, and great kid off the field or court as well. He was liked everywhere he went and he was a friend of my son, Colton.... a tragic loss indeed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Barr family in this terrible time. -
Just another terrible day in the mountains
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to bowhuntaz1's topic in The Campfire
My Son is at that little fire and I talked to him yesterday morning. They will grow this fire to 3000 acres in the next couple of days.... That is why they don't want anyone in there.... if it was to blow up the liablities would be, as you can imagine, high. The new Management concepts employed by the Circus dictate that they will build a containment "Box" then burn it... There is another burning up the face of the Rim near the Naggelin that was blazing yesterday... however the Monsoons may have put them both out... I have not heard. James you must need to find a new place to put out cameras.... with all the "bad" luck you are having in that pathetic unit 23.... ... I'd surely try somewhere else. -
Not try to jump on you... but there is no such thing as a "Sport Trapper"... it is a way of life and was a winter time living to many families including mine (during my childhood)... there was no "sport" about it just hard work and one of the best management tools ever used... many a hard miles each and every day... I miss those days and am very sad that I never had the chance to share with my boys the great memories and tradition of trapping, to the misconception that is was a "cruel sport".... so, I'm sorry for the rant and highjcak... but the words "sport" and trapping should not be placed together in any sentence... Thank you for posting the picture!!!! Awesome!!! I am obsessed with these spotted cats... and only wish I was born a 100 years ago, for I will never have an opportunity to hunt one in my lifetime....

HOW TO SELL TOOTHBRUSHES The kids filed back into class Monday morning. They were very excited. Their weekend assignment was to sell something, then give a talk on productive salesmanship. Little Sally led off: "I sold girl scout cookies and I made $30," she said proudly, "My sales approach was to appeal to the customer's civil spirit and I credit that approach for my obvious success." "Very good," said the teacher. Little Jenny was next: "I sold magazines," she said, "I made $45 and I explained to everyone that magazines would keep them up on current events." "Very good, Jenny," said the teacher.. Eventually, it was Little Johnny's turn. The teacher held her breath ... Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher's desk. "$2,467," he said. "$2,467!" cried the teacher, "What in the world were you selling?" "Toothbrushes," said Little Johnny. "Toothbrushes!" echoed the teacher, "How could you possibly sell enough tooth brushes to make that much money?" "I found the busiest corner in town," said Little Johnny, "I set up a Dip & Chip stand and gave everybody who walked by a free sample." They all said the same thing, "Hey, this tastes like dog crap!" Then I would say,"It is dog crap. Wanna buy a toothbrush?" "I used the governmental approach of giving you something crappy for free, and then making you pay to get the crappy taste out of your mouth."

I still like a buy in/membership drive... makes it more better for the sight too... might allow it to grow membership and funds in the kitty.... Just one opinion though.....

Backpack hunting for coues
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to mason a's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Great Posts and Thread, guys.... It was said... "Big bucks are where you find them." That is the truest statement of all IMO... 35 yds from the road or 3.5 miles from a road... and everything in between.... big bucks are in every (coues) unit in the state they get big cuz no one sees them... The only reason I have an interest in Backpack hunting is for the hunt quality (as also mentioned), I rarely have the time for a BP hunt, so I try to limit my morning hikes to 1-2 miles from the ranger or truck.... that is a 30 to 45 minute walk if you hustle.... sometimes I am hunting from my ranger.... how far you go has far less to do with success than how long you stay.... -
I'd like to buy in... say $25???? $5 going to the site and $20 in the pot....So that there could be cash and prizes, maybe?? ....and to not exclude some of the really good guides here we could have a largest "client bull" in a separate class for an additional $25 for those who have tags as well as those who don't??? But that competion needs to run from Sept 11th... thru... Dec. 31st...IMO..... to make it a little more challenging for those "special tags"... Anyhow... just a thought.... I'm in either way!

WT Buck Water Use and Summer Activity
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
It is just a matter of luck at that point.... you have done all the homework you can... now you just need "One" to come for a drink.... will it happen??? Who knows, my Son once sat 14 1/2 hrs and saw a doe and a nubbin's buck.... .... my Wife had two misses on 90"+ bucks by noon on her very first day bow hunting in a ground blind ever.... all luck.... or the lack there of... Anyone who says you don't earn a deer by sittin' on water has never tried it... some days you are the windshield... some days the bug.... Best of luck and good hunting. -
What a Great Shoot!! I don't think I have ever enjoyed shooting more than the two, 7 am courses (3 & 4) my wife and I did on Saturday & Sunday mornings... cool and calm... no waiting at the lift or on course (mid-day was a zoo).... plenty of time to help my wife learn distance judging.... man did we have a blast!!! My wife can't wait for next year!! Her longest shot was 38.5 yards....Her scores improved with each round we did... I made her move back one stake after she shot a 3 down on her first course... ....man has she stepped it up with this new bow! My only complaint would be that they had a few targets that were sooo shot out that you could not see the rings even when standing next to them... course 3 mostly. The Smoker was Brutal! I am going to be ready for the Extreme Course next year! The long shot was fun... alittle tough due to the windy conditions.... I smoked that Big Foot on my 3rd round.... Jason.... Thanks for stopping by and hanging out for a while! Good to see you and the family... hope your boy is feeling better after having the stitches out! Thanks to Jim White for being there and having all the equipment on hand that I wanted for my late bull tag!!

Just bought one from Jim this weekend at the shoot! Thanks Jim!

Oh yeah.... took my bow and droped it off to Jeremy today... I wanted him to build me a new cable cuz I like the green serving better than the orange..HaHa! Well it was worth it... Jermy has been wanting more speed out of my bow so he built the new cable for that purpose... and Sha-Zam.... I gained 9 fps!!! Yup, I am now shooting my hunting arrows 298 fps... never seen a mail order string or cable do that!!! I also got to watch him build a cable for another guy tonight and now I know why I intend to never shoot "Name Brand" manufactured strings/cables... ever again... Thanks again Jeremy!
