    Land & Cabin questions

Hello. I'd definately buy one with septic installed, if you can find one you like that is a good enough deal. Make sure that the septic is large enough for the home you intend to build. Furthermore, if you happen to find one with an electric meter on it, that is also an added value. There should be plenty of lots to choose from right now in that area. As for size... that is a budget issue in most cases... those 5 acre lots are nice, but a nice buildable 3/4 acre lot will give you enough room to build a nice cabin, and would allow you to invest your dollars in a cabin vs. the extra land right now. My family has been in construction here in the rim country for over 30 years... I started my own company back in 1997 and am still going strong. I have built several custom homes as well as some semi-customs in the Starlight Pines area. I'd be happy to help you with lot selection, home design & build if and when you are ready. Feel free to contact me directly or check out my Web page... www.andson-construction.com Gino

    Elk Mount Question

I'd say min. 65 inches of clearance, I have 12' walls with a vault to 18'6" at the peak and all the "alert" bulls we have on the wall hung just above window top (82 inches) and extend beyond the 12' walls and the relaxed bull is right at 12'... When I design and build my next house I'll go with 16" flat ceilings I think... BTW... any "game room" will be more user friendly if you sheet the interior walls with 3/4" Ply wood before you sheetrock. FYI... I'll sell your Dad my place... then he will have no problem with any of his futer mounts.... I designed and built our living room with the mounts in mind and we love it! ...Or if he is looking for a builder I'd be happy to help him out as well.

    Tree stand hunting

I have posted this digram before... however I too am improving my thought process with each year so I have added a bit of important info... The "Blue Dot" is still IMO a perfect kill espcially if the animal is quarted away slighly. Lending a quick kill to anything in the larger black oval. The "Yellow Dot" is also a very fast kill when shooting down on a broad side to slight quatered too shot. Your shot has a lot of kill zone (yellow oval) here from an elevated possition... but aim low! The Pink Line is important because we all need to realize that the leg bone does NOT extend straight up from the visible leg and the odds of hitting it if you are patient in your shot are very slim. Especially when you consider that bone will be nearly horizontal to the ground before the arrow arrives, as most deer do drop forward at the shot. Further more, don't even consider that you might miss low... that NEVER happens... My cousin shot completely under her first deer and she center punched his heart... I have the video to prove it. An alert coues will drop 4-6 inches in an arrow's flight time. Try to avoid shooting at an allert buck if you can... but I know that is a tough thing with coues. I personally prefir a buck to be at a slow walk when I shoot because they never drop if they are in motion... however this is at 20 yds and in, ONLY... and I do put a lot of preparation into making this shot and DO NOT recomend it unless you have shot Thousands of arrows from a bow and have 110% confidence in your ability to put an arrow exactly where you want it at 20 yds..."On a Dime"... is how prepared you have go to be on a moving shot IMO. I'm not sure if this makes sense but it is never the same... many mico adjustments must be made if you want to be a success vs. a statistic...

    NAP Bloodrunner 2 blade

A buddy of mine shot a buck at 20-25 yards with one in January... Clean pass through and the buck made it about 60 yds... We processed & wrapped 7 deer in January for varrious family and friends and the wound from that blood runner was by far the worst trauma I have ever seen from any head...like the buck had been hit with a ax on Both sides. Can't tell you about down range use tho...

    Tree stand hunting

If you hit anywhere near or above the center of the torso you will lose them almost every time... and if you hit the yellow dot... well that deer would have gone less than 100 yds. I had a hunter last year who Swore he shot the buck quartering away at 16 yds and stuck the arrow in the off shoulder, because he saw fletchings sticking out as the buck ran off... I said, "Dead deer lets give him an hour or so, just in case"... We recovered the deer 200 yds away... and recoverd the broad head in the rear leg... the entrance whole was 6+ inches forward of where he thought as well. The buck turned nearly 90* toward him in the time it took his arrow to fly less than 16 yds... so where you think you hit and where you do is often not the same thing. That is why we wait so long and we often try to video our beginer hunters so that we can freeze frame the PIO on the playback to see how much longer we should wait...things happen out there WAY faster than our eyes can process them. Aim LOW, aim Forward.... consider all degrees of angle before you squeeze that trigger... if you don't have time to do all that... might wait for another chance... as my buddy Jason says about archery coues hunting, "Don't make it happen, Let it happen." Best of luck to you...

    Tree stand hunting

This is a very hard shot because his leg is sooo far back and slightly quatering to you... I have highlighted the bottom and top of the buck in red, but the blue line is likly how far his body will drop before the arrow gets there... maybe more...I would shoot this deer through the front shoulder and would like not hit the bone where I placed the yellow dot. However, waiting for him to present the perfect broadside or quartering away shot would be best. I would only take this shot if I had been shooting a bunch in the few days prior to this opportunity and had 110% confidence in where my arrow was going. In that possition the buck can change your PIO by 6"-10" depending on how far he is and how poised to blow he is... There is sooooooooo much to the exicution of a shot on a coues... I could write a book, or give severa hour seminars... these deer are soo fast!

Low and forward... Period. If you hit too low... you missed clean... and remember that leg bone does not continue straight up.

    Wallow Fire

If anyone knows a guy in the Springerville area named Wes Harper... please feel free to slug him in the whiskers next time you see him for being a Pin Head... So help me if I ever see him I'll bust his skull for the ignorant things he said on New Channel 3 at 9pm last night.... He called the spokes person out for "not being dirty"... and then was spouting off about how to fight this fire... a fire that jumps a Mile in the wind... "dig a muddy ditch with John Deer Tractors...." IGNORANT..... Someone needs to pound a burnt stump into that Liberal Morons Mouth... Those guys are putting their lives on the line.... only so much can be done... The woods are under managed and they are wicked dry... We all have to live with the reality that someday it could be our turn... if a person can't handle the th...ought of possibly being burt over in a wildfire then they ought to consider Phoenix living as an option. Acting like the wildland teams are not doing enough makes me wanna say "Pull out boys and let her burn..." But I know that was just one guy... and he does deserve to have his lips smash to his teeth... God Bless our Wildland Firefighters on the lines of the Wallow Fire.... and Dam To H e l l all the tree huggers that block proper forest management....
