Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
No... Chasin' a Dream!!!! HaHa!!! I was asked to put a conservative tight tape to this buck... and those of you who are not afraid to think Big are very close!!! And yes Jeremy's personal goal was met yet again (exceeded)! -
Have you ever missed a shot because of a steep angle?
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
Yup.... ... missed the biggest buck ov my life at 505 yds in October... shot about a inch over his back on a down hill angle of about 22-25 degrees.... -
Nice bucks for sure!!

I really love the tape stretchers!!! How many times have we seen: "We killed this 130" coues...." "Just smoked this Giant 220" mulie..." "Just taged out on this 400" bull after passing on lots of 350's..." Oh Yeah... cuz they are behind ever tree. But when looking at the pics, or the horns in hand you can't help but wonder..."Hmm, who was stretching that tape???" Yes pics can be deciving and so can holding skull caped horns but if you really look at an animal's head in any pic you can get a pretty good idea. A 130" coues and a 220" mulie had better have Length, Width, AND MASS (or Trash) .... and an elk without 5 points over 20" and good everywhere (or Extras)... well lets just say, "Lacking...." Then you read their name in one of the recording period record books and chuckle. I am probably repeating myself but just had to point it out again....

First Buck Of The Season
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Way to go Jimbo! Excellent start to the Mexico season indeed!! -
I get what you are saying Devin... but some guys really only care to know "about" what something scores... see it all the time... Guys thow a quick tape on some bone but don't add the 1/8's up so it scores..."about"...HaHaHa.... The ones that bug me are the ones that were 40" bigger before they get a B&C or P&Y score... I know a few guys that every bull they kill is 360+ til the official scorer stretches a steel tape on them... HaHaHa...

The hound hunters won't shoot small/young lions in these areas even when there are multiple bag limits in effect! I would like to here if the new night hunting with lights has any success! The Deer and Sheep Assoc. help a lot on this by issueing a contracts in problem/multi bag areas and then atleast a few smaller catts are taken... but you could put 5 packs on the ground for 2 months straight and not put a dent in the cats up north... the Park alnoe holds a forever renewable resource of cats up there...

Maybe you shoud quit feeding deer chasers and get some lion dogs! Sorry... had to....

aRT... I think you miss or lack one point that makes your argument/attack on David a poor choice. You are not from AZ nor do you have ANY clue what our populations or management looks like. Fact... You can not ellimintate lions in AZ... they are far more prolific than anyone can truely estimate. As a rule (unless under state contract) most houndsmen in this state Do refrain from the harvesting of Female cats, but paying clients do offten insist on taking females and it is perfectly LEGAL. However when you glass a lion and have a tag in your pocket it is pretty hard to sex the cat or even tell how large it is at a distance... and having glassed and tagged 2 female cats in the last decade here in my home state, I assure you I too was/am proud as a peacock at my good fortune! As a hound sympathizer (and occasional hunter) I am certain that when I do finally kill a large Tom with my bow over Dogs I will be equally as proud of my success... but until then I assure you we are not decimating our population by taking a female here or there. And I'd just as soon, out of state hunters not put their 2 cents in on something they realy have little knowlege about.

125" + change Here's my story...
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to longshot 260 rem's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Congrats on a fantastic buck and for the great write up! All the effort paid off big time! A Jackwagon once said, "...hunting coues is not a team effort... you shot it, it is your triumph." (paraphasing a real story) But your hunt once again showcases to me how inportant hunting Pards and team work are in taking giant coues bucks! Congrats!! How about more pics???
