Today I am all about gross score not book score, however, I went through a time when book score was what mattered. We quit putting our critters in the books a few years back... mostly cuz it didn't do the animal true justice in many cases, and the "books" are quite honestly just not as important to us as they once were. There are many broken spokes in the scoring wheel, IMO... but what has created the problem that you are agrivated with is $$$$ and egos... Tape stretching and lying about score starts a chain reaction and then the next guy's trying to keep up, pretty soon the first liar doesn't stand a chance. Hunting is suppose to be more like Golf... You against the animal, just as golf is you against the course... My son's late coues hunt was a great example of that: We passed a buck on the 2nd day and again on the 5th or 6th day that I felt was a Solid (and likely conservitive) 110"-112" mature coues buck... he was a great trophy deer and my son liked him because he was a bit trashy. But he felt that since he already had a 112"er that he (we) could do better and we had seen many bigger bucks in his unit. We spent the Entire 2 weeks trying... He ate tag soup...and... We had an amazing hunt! Were we stupid... Nah... it was about the great hunt we had and his personal goals. And if he would'a smoked that buck then he would have spent the rest of the year wondering if he had sold himself short... that in my mind is a true trophy hunter. I told you that to say this.... If a hunter is true to himself and to his own goals then tape strrtching becomes less common... However if everyone is too busy trying to keep up with the Jones's then you get to where we are now. I have come to the conclusion that I really don't care who is doing what any more... and I am just gunna do my own thing... However to answer your question... YES... it does bug me when you see a critter pic that does not appear to even come close to the number under it...HaHaHa, but who am I to judge... I have under and over judged critters many a times depending on the circumstances. And Tinesup.... I see your a newby... don't let them get you down in the mouth for asking a great question!

Outcome of the Game & Fish meeting today????
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to AZLance's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
True enough Pal... I totally agree... and my frustration was really meant for our fellow hunters that "look down their noses" at those who bait... I don't care if they are picking on Muzzleloader hunters or traditional bow hunters or any other kind of hunter... WE ALL should fight as one and defend our freedoms!! They, just take "One" at a time as the others watch!! We have become Sheeple... and just shrug, "Awe, it don't affect me none so I could care less..." Just like our 2nd amendment rights... even though hand guns kill far more folks than "military style" weapons they (Feds) are going after the weakest leg of gun owners because they can start the "divide and conquer" game... I will fight for ALL gun rights... Just like I will fight for ALL sportsmans rights. It just frustrates the H-E-L-L outta me that folks can't speak with one voice, can't support the rights of others even if it isn't their "problem" or their style of hunting... I have seen the tears of joy in many children's eyes as they collected their first trophy (over bait) and that made every effort I made in this fight worth it... Those kids didn't "cheat", they WON! We lost that for future kids... the video games will be more fun in the house where it is warm if they are not gunna see as many deer... mark my words... And to the guy that thought I was likely there cuz of the money end of this... let me clear up that stat for you... I have been involved/ aided in the harvest of over 30 coues & several javi's in the last 10+ years... and I recruited over 2 dozen entry level hunters to chasing coues, overseen thousands of deer-less hours affield and many success stories, yet many of my recruits don't hunt over bait anymore but rather became addicted to the hunt because of bait. In all those years of helping folks successfully hunt these spooky lil' deer with a bow I only did it for money on 3 of them... I have turned down archery coues hunters many times... Infact turned one down since the Commission voted... an older fellow called wanting a chance at a coues before the laws change and I said, simply, "No thanks." Pretty sure I was there because I care about our rights not about the money... -

If you didn't atleast participate in the process, (letters, attending the meeting, speaking up for for your fellow sportsman) then I really don't think you have anything to complain about... There was NO scarifice by Hunters/Sportsman of AZ yesterday! Everyone had "somewhere else" to be... One Lawyer, or One guy with a bit of Good scientific data, or a room PACKED with sportsman might have caused them to at least pause! There were maybe a 100 folks that sent letters and/or spoke for our rights as hunters... the rest are nothing more than Lazy in my book! Thank you to all who tried!! I honestly don't care that it is gone... I've done it (baited) in most years since the late 90's, but have not spilled an ounce of bait this last years' hunting seasons and I fought as hard as any to preserve the right simply because of the kids, women, elderly, and handicapped folks it is gunna affect most. Some day as an aging man I will be forced out of the archery game by rule changes that were voted into place yesterday, shame on any of you who stood with you hands in your pockets... It was never about how You do it or how I do it... it was about them dividing and conquering us... and they won. I will still kill deer... I have learn alot about coues deer in the last 15 years... I will still kiil deer legally. That is where I am headed as soon as I click "Post"... Good Hunting and Good Luck! -

My good buddy Jason Scarbrough called me tonight and is in the market for a used 4Wheeler... He is looking for a 2005 or newer Honda Rancher, but I bet he'd entertain anything close if it was in good condition. Thanks!!
-
I am supplying him with all this info guys... he works long hours and has very little phone service during the day... but I will be seeing him this weekend and will make sure he has this info! Thank you very much!!
-
BTT for a great great gun....My wife has the 7 shot version... great gun! wish it was in my budget to put it in my hunting pack!
-
So pay this guy the finders fee for your auction hunter... and if that doesn't work I can hook you up with another guy to pay a finders fee to... And I do "have a clue" pal... I know you already spoke with the gentalman from this thread and he gave you nothing, cuz nothing is free... and you are awwfully touchy about it... Burn that Diesel fuel!! Find a Big One... Good Hunting! For the record if I was the general tag holder I would be praying that the hunting community would not rat off the one really good ram in the unit just days before my hunt started....
-
Relax Jason...you don't need to cyber scout you are plenty good enough without it... and you know dang good and well that info is meant for the tag holder not for one of us who is looking to cold call and book the hunter... I had a buddy sitting on that ram several times on his deer hunt... and could have easily made the call but thought better of it... I got no bone with you and you none with me so lets keep it that way... my coment was not directed at you or intended for you... I just think less said is more to the benifit of all who spend countless hours afield, whether chasing elk, deer, or sheep... I know you feel similar about certain things... Cheers and Happy Holidays to you and yours...
-
I love it! Congrats Devin!! There be monsters in them hills for those who are beyond dedicated!! Well deserved!!!
-
Tell your buddy to keep his info to himself... That big boy has been hangin' pretty much in the same country for a while, and he ain't the only one seeing him.
-
Congrats Buddy on a well deserved deer and a Very successful hunt!! YOU did it and you did it alone... and honestly that is something I'd not ever wanna do... but I know you are "That Guy" and Kudos to you! That is wicked country for one man alone, don't ever let the inches over shadow the fact that you hunted AZ "Safari hunt" by yourself and got it done on a great buck! Cheers!
