Well this isn't too freaky.... but it is pretty cool.... My Boy shot this in 33 last Oct. His eyeguard must have broke and reattached while in velvet..... and he has a "bee hole" up behind that "mini drop tine". I've think I still have a really wild Elk head my Dad found many years ago while turkey hunting.... If I find it I'll post it too.....

Nope.... I just put up Detour Signs around your stand.........the deer seemed to follow the Detour signs..... ..... How bout you Troy....... How are you gunna go about finding a new spot this year???? Are going to pick a new unit closer to home this year? Or do you stay in the same unit and work a lot harder???? That is the real Question.... for each of us to answer. -
Okay, this may sound strange...... maybe too many "deerless" hours in the woods. Anyhow...... We have a ton of great Coues deer units in AZ (and NM, for that matter). I have only bow hunted in about 4 units in AZ, but have a real itch to hunt three or four others. So, my question is this....... How do you guys determine where you are going to Archery hunt each year? What motivates you to try a new unit and have any of you had success in a brand new hunting location on the first year you hunted it?

Yeah I'm thinkin' non-typ, too. But, a MONSTER side rack for sure!!! He's a dandy!!! He might still even be alive, eh?

I agreee that the BIG bulls start that early..... I think that there are way to many guys that get out and start bustin' brush, too soon and scattering the bulls all over.... .... need to wait a bit. Unless you are watching a bull and know that he has already dropped.... Might want to wait on diving into your favorite "Bone Hole"..... till closer to the end of March. Hey rabidApache, Sure would love to see pics of the first set of early Brownies you pick up!!! And the rest of the SC Monsters you pick up!!!!

Traditional Muzzleloader tips?
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to BASS's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
Yeah, you might go hungry if you have a clogged nipple! Sorry... I couldn't help myself......LMFAO!!!! Good luck with that ol' smoke pole!! Sound like fun. -
I can tell you that the Camelback is the way to go...... I have used them for years and have only had one leak problem with the mouth piece getting crushed.... they have a shut off valve for the mouth piece.... now I use it. I spent the money on the little worthless looking pack with the 100 oz. bladder already in it and I move that bladder from pack to pack depending on what I am doing. Believe it or not the pack that they sell with the bladder is perfect when you are horn hunting or just out day hiking/scouting...... very small and is never in your way when busting the brush.....FYI.... About packs....... We used the Wolf Pack internal frame for several years, but I think we must have pushed the limits of there warranty... they quit replacing the ones we destroyed. So, we bought the new one from Crooked Horn. It is big.... I think up to 4400 or so..... and it works great. Enough room that I can pack all my hunting gear, (optics, tripod, cameras, knives, gamebags, food, etc., etc.) and still expand it out large enough to get a boned out coues, (all the meat) and the head, horns and cape all in the pack. About a 100-110 lbs.... it was heavy, but that pack is very comfortable under any weight load. With a pack like this... 3 guys with almost empy packs can bone, cape, and scull cap a bull elk and make it out in one trip.... alot easier with 4 though. If anyone is interested in that Crooked Horn send me a PM and I give you some other info, too.

Next Year????? How bout this year?????? Got to get off of the sofa to hunt, or Scout for that matter! Only the guys that show up get to see the new stuff......cuz.... I'lllllll nevver telllllll.......... ....... Manny......... Hey, Jeff. Good luck on those new spots.... May they become, "Honey Holes"!!!! And thanks for the vote of confidence! I think that understanding the animal you are hunting and the time of year you are hunting them is very important in searching out any future "Honey Hole". -
Thanks, Mike.... I'll let you handle it. I am not sure if a mentioned this or not when we talked about this hunt on the phone... but I think I know a couple of places where spot and stalk might work..... if you are up to some Wicked stalks.... I will point them out on a map for you if you want to try it out......

LOL!!! I like that.... and I might even resemble that remark!!! Always chasin' rainbows! I think we all do that, a little.... or a lot. But, I can tell you this..... the best way to keep me out of a spot I've never been is to tell me that you are hunting there. To me it is like casting across the guy next to you who is catching a bunch of fish.... My dad had term for that, and it is not acceptable to say in public.... so I won't repeat it. I mean what pride is there in Piracy..... I have to drive my 4-wheeler farther or get my Wife out of bed 2+ hours before daylight to drop me at a trail when I hunt with a bow now days.... That is a pain. That is why I am interested in trying new things where fewer people know what I drive..... -
My buck won a biannual Pope & Young Award
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to bowsniper's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Hey Mark, Did you get a call form the Pope & Young Club today about your Buck??? Pope & Young must not be getting very good responce from Western Hunters....... I received a call from P & Y today, kinda shocked me. They wanted to see if I was going to send my Coues Deer buck back there..... and he sounded pretty dissapointed when I said "No". I told him that if they would have their Convention a little closer it to the West it would be something that I would do. I told the guy that PA is just too far away for me. -
1st and 2nd choice cow hunters? I agree...... only the cow hunts with 100% draw success might get you drawn on a 3rd choice...... I almost never put in more than 2 or 3 choices.... why waste the time. There are a lot of meat hunters out there that just want to harvest an elk every year..... I LOVE those who apply for cow tags 1st & 2nd choice....... that means a slightly better chance on a bull tag for ME!!! I'm dreamin' now.....

Thanks, Tony.... I will look for the packed down trails with with only small foot prints... that would be a good place too start!! Ya know........ I do try to find the good in every situation.... and I think I found the silver lining in this one!!! If I "steal" my son's copy of that book I might then no where Not to look!!!! PS: Tony you do know, that if you make that 50,000 copies mark I would be very happy to receive a kick back for all the ad work I've done for you. Anyhow, I did mean for this to be a serious and engaging thread..... I do think that it is very interesting how each of us broach a new area or unit...... and I do always have a desire to try new places and new styles of hunting....... May the thread go on!!!! -

Mike, I've said that for years!!!! But, you sure don't hear a peep about THAT in the main stream news media!! The sorry SOB's would cut off their noses to spite their faces!!!! And most are educated FAR beyond their intelligence. I'm just soooo gut full of their crap and lies. That guy sure put it very well..... too bad it will never make Prime Time TV. G -

I agree with all of you..... and for the most part we all have our "compfort zone" areas we hunt. This is more like a "wild hair"..... to pick up roots and try something new.... maybe for just one week.... maybe more..... of course how far does a guy want to travel to a new spot is always a factor too..... I just think that it would be a fun challenge. -

Aw, Man...... Mine are all Jacked Up too!!!! More on elk, less on antelope..... They have Sheep and deer Jacked as well!!! How the heck do I have 6 loyalty points for Bear?????? This aught to be interesting........ -
Sweet! Those bucks are huge! Pretty unique coloring on their heads too. WOW!
-
Only for the high trafic spots..... We find hard whites every year when we are out hunting. We packed out these two hard whites in Dec. on my wifes bull hunt. Last spring 4 of us went in to that same area...... I packed out 6 brownies, two of the others each found a brown, and one packed out 2 hard whites..... but we missed these 2 and several other chaulk whites that we hung in the trees. Worth a try..... good for your health too.
