Taxidermist Recommendations?
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to BuckNasty's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Well I don't know any guys in the Valley, but I can tell you about the two guys that I use. They are Awesome at what they do! First you will notice that Mogollon Taxidermy is advertised on CW.com...... I have used Clay for many years now and he is at that top of his field.... and has a real nack for custom work. I will attach some pics of the Coues Deer and of the lion that he has done for me in the past couple of years. The lighting is not right because I had to us the flash.... but the work is Great on these mounts. Also, the Dbl pedistal mount is on Clay's web site for a better look at it. -
I have the same tripod as Red Rabbit.... I have been using and abusing it for many years. It is light and strong.... also it extends long enough that you can stand behind it (which I only recomend if looking for elk sized game in calm conditions ). The plastic clips are easy & quick to use and have held up very well... none are broken! As for the head..... I used a Boat Anchor..... I mean Bogan head for many years. They are heavy, but hold up well to the wind and the abuse. However, they are noisy over time.....as they begin to wear out..... Although, I am not a big Outdoorsman customer..... I now use the Outdoorsman head..... I do like it very much for how compact, light, quiet, and easy to use it is. It is, however, a little weak under the weight of my STS 65 when it is windy. I have found that with the dove tailed shoes I can remove the head and slide my scope right onto the top of my tripod...... for long range spotting or video it is then rock steady! It is an expensive head, but I think if weight and simplicity are important to you, then this is a great product. Just my $.02 worth......

Yeah, but most of the folks in that neck fo the woods are a bit Strange...... ..... or Greedy & Selfish! It is a real shame, too.... it is awsome country. Of course.... th Nature Consevancy is just as much to blame as the Locals..... There are some pretty good folks down that way, too though...... ... at least one or two..... -

Deer game processing question
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to vml's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I'm not sayin' that I have not washed meat before.... But several meat processors that I know have told me that..... and it makes sense. Sooo, I try not to do it any more, but I still do it, sometimes. I really think that the freeze and thaw w/o being boned and trimmed is what is making vml's deer rank... not the washing. my $.02...... -
Leveling Kit vs. Lift Kit
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to ndaniel's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I have only ever had 2 trucks with lifts...... but they are/were higher maintenance and they always sound loose. Prior to lifting my wife's truck, she had a leveling kit on it for a couple of years and it was great. I think for a truck going to the woods that the leveling kit is the way too go. Lifted trucks are only for show....... -
Deer game processing question
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to vml's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Washing meat with a hose won't make it taste bad, but it can promote the spread of bacteria, like E-coli. -
OOps..... I fixed it....

Jim, I think you hit the nail on the head with those last 2 pics!!!! Here is a horn that my boy picked up this weekend..... It is not that freaky, but if you look at how the horn would have come off of the bull's head.... The burr is almost 90 degrees to the beam..... I guess this bull had no problem scratchin' his own back! I would have liked to seen this one on the hoof.

Tyson, Is this how HOYT fastens their limbs to their risers Bob I think..... it is actually bailing wire first... them apply duct tape.... The Bailing Wire helps too resonate the hand shock!!!!!

I hate to sound like a broken record..... But if you like the Swaro 15's.... save for them and buy them..... They are the Best! And it isn't like you are going to replace what ever you buy......I mean it is a long term purchase..... When I bought my first Swaros I saved and did side jobs to buy them...... best money I have ever spent. Good glasses will make you a better hunter because you will see more and good glasses will make you more patient. When I go glassing with guys that don't have Swaros, I have noticed that I start glassing way before they do in the mornings...... I have even had guys ask me, "What are you doing? It's way to dark to see, yet."..... and I am glassing away..... FYI....... If I was shopping for my first pair of good optics the only hard choice would be whether to buy the Swaro 10x50's or the 15x56's. My reason is this....... the 10x50's are the best all around glasses.... you can freehand them, more compact, better field of veiw, and brighter & sharper than any other glasses I've ever looked through. The bright, crisp clarrity of the 10x50's really offsetts what you lose in power to the 15x56's...... IMO. I love my 15x56's because of the extra power and I always have my 8x30 or 10x42 binos around my neck for free hand and close in lookin', anyhow. But, if I only wanted to carry one pair of glass all the time...... it would be the 10x50's.... Just my $.02..... -

Ya, but I was told that they are so light because the housing is, more or less, "plastic".... .... I have never held any of the Conquest Binos.... but a buddy of mine used to sell optics and his words to me were....."The most expensive plastic binos ever made."..... might not be the case.....don't shoot me if it is less than perfect info.... -

My Vote: Irresponsible Hunters We have all seen it..... The guys that make us all look bad.... We are under the microscope from the Anti-hunters......... how we act, what we do, and how do it all reflect the future of our sport. Not that any of us are sooo perfect, we have all made our mistakes..... but each and every one of us should attempt to be the most ethical, moral, and conservation minded hunter as possible. It starts with our kids..... and teaching them right from wrong. In my opinion it is even in how we let our kids play..... video games and TV don't help....... but I never let my kids shoot anything they did not intend too eat.... that meant no shooting stray cats, "tweety birds", or anything else that you were not willing to eat...... consequently Colton came home one day with a friend (and a dead "tweety bird")...... He says, " Mom, will you help us cook this." ....and they did. I asked him that night when I got home, how it tasted and why he had done it... he told me that it was not very tasty, and that he really had to see if he could shot the bird out that tree.... and he was curious what it would taste like....so he was willing to eat it. That was the last time it ever came up... ... Although, I know that there are other mistakes that we made in raising Colton (spoiling, being push-overs, etc.)..... I can say this.... We did manage to raise a very ethical and moral hunter..... and he is the future of our sport. My $.02..... -
Well.... I have never put in for New Mexico before and am thinking about it this year....... of course...... for, you guessed it... Coues Deer and Sheep.... . I only ask advice because I know that some you hunt over there or live there. Not wanting anything specific..... Just units...... 23.....24..... 27.....or somewhere else for coues??? And any other info you about the New Mexico draw would be great. Can't draw here so might as well try to hunt coues somewhere..... Thanks.

You gave your dog a far better life than what it start as..... it looks as though it was a full and exciting one.... and you have lot of great memories to carry with you. -
My wife gave me one for X-mas..... I played with once...... not sure if I like it, but I need to spend more time trying to figure it out..... .... not enough hours in the day to play with all the gadgets we aquire!
