    Trail Cam Molester!!

Well finally went back out to check this cam again after a month and the batteries were still working!! It is the Moultrie Cam that has 6 D batteries and boasts 60 days of life! I know that had not changed the batteries for atleast 40 days! Well this is the cam that I built the Bear box for..... and it worked! I have some pics of the bear, again. And of a coues buck with over a month of growing..... but I can't post them.... Amanda, HELP!!! Something is wrong with the settings and it won't let me download.

    expandables with light weight

I am a huge fan for expandables...... but, I am unsure that I would us them on a bow that is under 250 fps..... IMO, better to be safe than sorry. I think that a cut on impact broadhead like the NAP Razorback is the Perfect head for a slower arrow. BTW, those Razorbacks are wicked on deer! Just my $.02!

  8. Why don't ya tell us how ya really feel, there Big Guy... I just don't understand why people have to rip off trail cams, or anything else for that matter... I mean what do they do with them..... do they have a pile of them at home, or do they put them back out in other places?? I just don't get it.

    Rem 7MM-08

Mike, I have a real gun that she can borrow. I know that Huntn' coues has the same gun for his daughters, and they have harvested a bull with the 7mm-08. As far as a light gun I think the best light elk gun there is, is the .270..... I don't own one but Colton has smoked a few elk with one and so has my Bro-in-Law and they don't hardly kick. Other wise a magnum with a break and a pad or a Short Mag will do nicely! Heck, Colton might even let her shoot his.....

Does anyone us a 22-250 for Coues

I can honestly say that a 22-250 is pleanty of gun for Coues.....We have harvested quite a few critters with mine.... I love it for antelope.... and I even know people who have harvested cow elk with them. But consider this..... the 22-250 is very apt to be affected by the wind, as are many of your smaller calibers. For 250-300 yards with little or no wind we have had Great success with mine, it is a tack driver, but the last Coues hunt I took mine on (2001), I missed a buck 4 times at 420 yds. Aparently there was wind in the canyon between us, moving my bullets a long way.... because I was hitting nowhere near him. He never ran and had no idea where I was or that I was even shooting at him.... I gave up and went home. The next day I took out the 300 Wby and smoked a buck at 400 yds and we have been using .30 cals. for most of our hunting ever since. I think you will be fine but you will need to pass on some shot opps from time to time. Good Luck. CnS

    Bass pro shop

Well TAM, it looks like you are going to get your wish. While I was down picking up a can of 7828ssc at the SW in north Phoenix the kid at the optics counter told me that construction had proceeded on a Sportsman's warehouse in Prescott Valley and that it should be open in early spring of 2008. I'll see what I can dig up on the rumor. take care, Schmitty That would be Awesome to have a SW at PV!!! But, an SW will kill the small shops over there. Keep us posted Schmitty.

    Deer Camp

That is funny stuff right there!!! A buddy of mine actually put together a "manditory management meeting" itinerary for the Kiabab archery hunt (everyone that works with him hunts and none of them got drawn). His sounds much like yours except no loud Rock n Roll..... and no illegals, but he does have a graduated quit hunting and start drinking time each day.... I think by the third day it is about 10 am. His is like a full page.... I'll post it if I can.
  13. Got these pics off of my trail cam this weekend. They were all taken on different days but seem to support a thought that they are starting to "tune up" their pipes..... I Know we all love the sounds of the elk rut!

    Get Rid of Special Permits?

Since when is life fair???? BTW.... Average Joes do win the Super Raffle. I am all for raising additional funds for wildlife!! And all the ideas posted on this thread are great money makers..... but why find ways to replace the funds we already have. I think we can all agree that all costs are up in the world we live in... including the cost of saving and maintaining wildlife and thier habitat. These Programs are good.... If you all want to fix on something..... work on how to fix people..... not the program. CnS

    finished Whitetail mount!

Thanks, I'm pretty proud of him. Yea I got lucky and drew an October whitetail tag. Not my first choice, but very happy to have it anyway. Gonna try to hunt the big non-typical that was with my archery buck back in Dec. Did you draw a tag or sticking to archery this year? All the bucks in the picture are unit 22 bucks Yup.... I drew an Oct. tag too... but not in the same unit as you. It was my first choice. My wife drew a good Mulie tag so that will be first order of business in Oct. Good luck on your deer hunt.... we want more pics of a Big buck out of you this year!!!

    Over the counter deer tags

monstercoues....... I respect your point, but I think you are missing a couple of points that make ALL the difference in this case. I do know a little bit about the units you posted above and I assure you that Most of the archery harvests in those units are in habitat areas where there is Very little rifle hunting preasure. Being that Coues deer have a very limited range/territory it would be safe to assume that the archery harvests do very little to the portion of the deer herd that is rifle hunted. Example: If I hunt those units with a bow, I never hunt very close to the places I would rifle hunt.... the diverse terrain makes it very hard to hunt parts of these units successfully with a bow and likewise other places nearly impossible to hunt with a rifle. Furthermore, I do also believe that the data being presented is flawed do to incomplete reporting. The AZGF has also stated that in order to have more hunter opportunity they abolished most of the Dec. whitetail permits in these units and dropped them into a low success Oct. hunt. It theory that has limited the numbers harvested..... and yet rather than using a projected harvest objective, to help promote hunter opportunity, they wish to add these units to the draw so that they can feel like they have issued more permits to more hunters... They are assuming that they can make more of the Diehard archery hunters choose to apply for archery hunts which the Game & Fish has deemed as high demand archery hunts. Thus leaving more rifle tags for Diehard rifle hunters. I don't believe this is about deer numbers at all.... I believe it is about the AZGF's mathematical agenda..... ... If AZGF's possition is about hunter opportunity then they need to be a bit more creative with their proposals. Cns

Yep, he is gonna be a pretty good buck. He looks like he has a good bit of growing left to do.

    finished Whitetail mount!

Looks Great, Gary! We all know Clay does good work and that rack makes the the taxi work look even better!!!! Congrats, again! Gary, did you draw a deer tag this year?

    Over the counter deer tags

I, also, do not support this archery draw idea....... I realize that the North Rim units have always had a different management plan and maybe this is one of those times..... but a draw may or may not really the solution. I do really support the idea of having a harvest objective for archery deer, just like bear. This allows for hunter opportunity, while it does not stress the deer herd. Everyone wins.... AZGF still gets the money, we all still get to hunt where we want, at least part of the time. IMO..... either the AZGF wants hunter recruitment and hunter opportunity...... or they really want to slowly cut us off from hunting all together.... If they implement an archery draw instead of a harvest objective.... we will truley know their final objective. CnS

    Get Rid of Special Permits?

I am ALL for the special permits. The groups that sell or raffle these permits attract a lot of support form people who might not otherwise spend their money on our wildlife or in our state. These permits bring a bunch of out-of-state money here.... all, or most of which will be gone if these tags are gone. If you all want to raise more money I am for that too. But, one incident does NOT constitute a need for a sollution.... I am disapointed that we are still talking about this and still beating a dead dog.... Right, wrong, or indifferent..... this ONE incident does not make the whole concept bad!!! We could find our entire hunting sport in jeopardy if the anti's could use one hunting accident, or one game violation, or hunter argument against us all to change laws...... Lets get back to SUPPORTING OUR SPORT instead of proving amunition..... the rest of this will be settled by the laws that we already have in place. Done deal. CnS
