That buck really looks like he has one horn....now.... How much are the beer glasses?? I think GH might want to treat us to beer out of CW.com glasses on his daughter's elk hunt.... -
Not on Fain Ranch it won't... ... Those are the most educated goats around. We have had good success spot & stalk and good success in blinds over there. We always hunt the "condos".... my huntin' buddy works the ranch so we usually have our pick.... The last hunt I was on over there, my boy had the tag and had hunted for about 5-7 days spot & stalk without scoring.... he came home all bumbed and hit me up to go back with him.... I had to think about it for oh... about.... 1/2 a second! heck Yeah!! We had to leave late that morning, cuz I had a meeting... got there about noon... had a buck on the ground before 3 pm.... It was a Frickin' hoot! That was my boy's second 19A buck. Too bad the Good 'Ol Days are gone.... It sure was the greatest place to hunt at one time! I have hunted that country a bunch..... and Matthewp45.... I can only give you one piece of advice about archery goat hunting.... there is nothing wrong with completely missing..... it is when you barely miss your mark and have to chase a wounded goat that you reallize how important the phrase Aim Small, Miss Small is.... I've watched it happen many times over there, and was fortunate that it never happened to me..... I hope that you can have the same good fortune. Good Luck. CnS

expandables with light weight
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to 300 wsm's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Well put, Manny. That is good advice. Manny's wife is one of the toughest and best bowhunting wives I have ever met! She has enough experience to make up her own mind about here equipment. Oh, and did I mention that she just had their second child last week??? A baby GIRL!!!! Congrats, Manny and Tiana!!!! -
Last I heard there are still issues there, but also at the Dekker place (in Deer Cr.), and also someone said that the road up Turkey creek was closed too?? I heard that you can't drive passed the mouth of Bear Canyon? What a mess. They will have to do 5 years of impact studies to cut roads in around these trouble makers.... or better yet why not just declair the roads eminent domain and cut the locks! I mean they do it in Pheonix if they want to build a freeway.... they basically throw people out... ... in this case it would be public service as well. I just think that it should be illegal stop access to public lands of this size. Just my $.02!

expandables with light weight
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to 300 wsm's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
FYI.... NAP Spitfires make the same 1 1/2" hole going in as it does going out. These expandable heads that don't open on impact are a waste...IMO. With a broadhead, it should be all about the size of the "drain holes"! I want 2 big holes so I have a large and hopefully short bloodtrail. Also, back to the original question on this Thread...... If your wife shoots a deer with an expandable out of a low poundage bow, and it does not pass through, it will not continue to cut like a fixed blade does. So, if the expandable does not open as it enters the hide.... and it does not pass through.... you might as well have shot it with a field point. At 40 yds and in most fixed blade heads are just as accurate as an expandable if properly tuned..... I use my Spitfire 100's most of the time with the thought that if I need to take a shot at beyond 50 yds.... I have the most accurate heads to do that with. My son still shoots the Razorbacks even though he shoots the same poundage I do now... and that is the head that I will put on my wife's bow this year, as well. You can shoot a field tip at a deer and kill it (if that were legal)... but why not try stacking the odds a bit and use the Best head for the situation at hand. Shop around... Muzzy 3-blades are great, Thunderheads are also great, and there are several brands that offer really good chisle point and cut-on-impact fixed blade heads. Again.... just my $.02 ...... -
Bump..... any reasonable offers???

Give me directions on how to do that online and I would like to do the same.... Amanda, Can you create a way for people to donate to the cause as easilly as buying something from your online store?? CnS -
Congrats on the Bear! Can't wait to see the pics!

Because we can't post pics at the moment.... I am reposting here. The 5th pic I posted in this thread is the buck that my buddy Jason harvested during our Jan. '07 hunt...(in the pic L to R, Jason, Me, & Colton) I posted his hunt story on the forum last spring. We finally got the P&Y score..... 110 1/8 Gross and 106 6/8 Net!!! Ummm, I think that makes the book.... I am real proud of my buddy.... but he kind raised the bar a bit... ... he beat my best archery buck by 1 2/8!!! Oh... this is gunna get tough and ugly... I can tell!

Trail Cam Molester!!
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Well finally went back out to check this cam again after a month and the batteries were still working!! It is the Moultrie Cam that has 6 D batteries and boasts 60 days of life! I know that had not changed the batteries for atleast 40 days! Well this is the cam that I built the Bear box for..... and it worked! I have some pics of the bear, again. And of a coues buck with over a month of growing..... but I can't post them.... Amanda, HELP!!! Something is wrong with the settings and it won't let me download. -
expandables with light weight
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to 300 wsm's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I am a huge fan for expandables...... but, I am unsure that I would us them on a bow that is under 250 fps..... IMO, better to be safe than sorry. I think that a cut on impact broadhead like the NAP Razorback is the Perfect head for a slower arrow. BTW, those Razorbacks are wicked on deer! Just my $.02! -
Boy I'll say....... Amen!! Great pics! That is way frickin' Cool!!!! Congrats!

Coues 'n' Sheep replied to azsagebrush's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Why don't ya tell us how ya really feel, there Big Guy... I just don't understand why people have to rip off trail cams, or anything else for that matter... I mean what do they do with them..... do they have a pile of them at home, or do they put them back out in other places?? I just don't get it. -
Mike, I have a real gun that she can borrow. I know that Huntn' coues has the same gun for his daughters, and they have harvested a bull with the 7mm-08. As far as a light gun I think the best light elk gun there is, is the .270..... I don't own one but Colton has smoked a few elk with one and so has my Bro-in-Law and they don't hardly kick. Other wise a magnum with a break and a pad or a Short Mag will do nicely! Heck, Colton might even let her shoot his.....

Does anyone us a 22-250 for Coues
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Bucks_N_Yotes's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I can honestly say that a 22-250 is pleanty of gun for Coues.....We have harvested quite a few critters with mine.... I love it for antelope.... and I even know people who have harvested cow elk with them. But consider this..... the 22-250 is very apt to be affected by the wind, as are many of your smaller calibers. For 250-300 yards with little or no wind we have had Great success with mine, it is a tack driver, but the last Coues hunt I took mine on (2001), I missed a buck 4 times at 420 yds. Aparently there was wind in the canyon between us, moving my bullets a long way.... because I was hitting nowhere near him. He never ran and had no idea where I was or that I was even shooting at him.... I gave up and went home. The next day I took out the 300 Wby and smoked a buck at 400 yds and we have been using .30 cals. for most of our hunting ever since. I think you will be fine but you will need to pass on some shot opps from time to time. Good Luck. CnS -
Well TAM, it looks like you are going to get your wish. While I was down picking up a can of 7828ssc at the SW in north Phoenix the kid at the optics counter told me that construction had proceeded on a Sportsman's warehouse in Prescott Valley and that it should be open in early spring of 2008. I'll see what I can dig up on the rumor. take care, Schmitty That would be Awesome to have a SW at PV!!! But, an SW will kill the small shops over there. Keep us posted Schmitty.

That is funny stuff right there!!! A buddy of mine actually put together a "manditory management meeting" itinerary for the Kiabab archery hunt (everyone that works with him hunts and none of them got drawn). His sounds much like yours except no loud Rock n Roll..... and no illegals, but he does have a graduated quit hunting and start drinking time each day.... I think by the third day it is about 10 am. His is like a full page.... I'll post it if I can.
