Jim Ryan is a great Conservationist and Hunter, the kind of guy that does not just play to win. I have friends that have hunted with him and he is very respectful of the animals that he hunts.... the man used to shoot a 95 lb bow (maybe less now) and is not just a shooter. Congrats on an amazing bull. CnS

I can't take him.... but I can put you in touch with my folks if you need a home for him. They will find him a good home..... My Mom is very involved in GSP rescue. You won't get any $$$ out of that deal though.... just a first rate home and hunting invironment for the Pup..... My Ma is real picky about the homes she place dogs in..... CnS PS: ...... MIKE..... Not sure I like the tone of your new signature quote!!!

Long Range Animal Recovery
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to m gardner's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
That is really good CMC..... I guess reviewing video never crossed my mind. I like it! Hey, Lark..... I have a Strong back and a Weak mind..... I'll pack whatever it takes to gitter-done!!! So...... Shooooosh!!! And, Casey..... I think you should always have a "spotter".... or chaparone.... when you go to the woods. CnS -
Long Range Animal Recovery
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to m gardner's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I think that taking good stock of where the animal was hit and where it was last seen is one of the most important things (good landmarks). Also..... long range shooting has a time and place. If you are alone (no spotter) and in that difficult of an area.... maybe the shot should not be taken.... I also believe that patients and hard work will almost always ensure that you recover your trophy. You shot it.... you have an obligation to recover it..... NO MATTER WHAT..... or atleast spend a day or two looking. I see way to many people walking away from the game they have hit after an hour or two..... that is crap. I know guys that have given up the hunt and invested days, weeks, and yes, months.... before recovering an animal they have shot. I have never had to look for more than about 6 hrs before, but I have helped others for days. I will help anyone who has that kind of Dedication to recover an animal.... I know that in a perfect world all recoveries would be 50 yds or less, but if you are out there enough and take enough critters.... it will happen to you as well. So no haters..... I have only lost one animal my whole life and spent days looking for it and then refused to pick up my bow for over a year..... but it does happen. Therefore.... "Aim Small, Miss Small", should be #1 in all our hunting. Okay... I got a bit off the subject.... CnS -

Congrats, Linnea! You are a real trooper in the woods and you put the Smack Down on a great bull!! Linnea is not blessed with her dad's long legs, but still managed to keep up with us. . At first I felt kinda bad that we put Linnea in a possition of.... "shoot - don't shoot". We had many bigger bulls on video and patterned, ready to "harvest". But, I generally hate afternoon elk hunts and so we thought that afternoon would be well spent looking at new bulls... just in case. I felt that we had lots of time to hunt and get one of our other bulls and I needed the exercise....beer gut. That afternoon hunt is one of my favorite Ever!! The way it went down was just, too, cool!! We had no radios (forgot them ) and very limited cell service (only on high ground). It took us a long time to get to the Right canyon that Colton had spotted the bull in and he did not want to come out of that overgrown mess for us to look at him. With a little creative calling between me and Colton (1000+ yds away) we got him up and moving toward us. I thought for sure we could get a good look and make the call.... but that bull was on the ground about as fast as I could let go of my call and lift my bino's!!! Linnea said to me that she saw a "6 point" and shot!! She finished her hunt, her way... and it was a ball!! I know that her Dad and I had big expectations for her to harvest our #1 bull or another big bull..... But, I think that Linnea is thrilled with Her Bull!!! That is what it is ALL about!!!! I was glad to been a part of such a great family hunt! You raised a great kid there, Mike!! To Troy and Colton.... Thanks.... ya'll made it easy!! As a side note I must send out a big Congrats to a girl I have known most of my life (we grew up together).... Congrats on a well deserved bull, Media! He did gross over 380" and had about 20+" broke. The years of hard work paid off on a Great Bull!!! Gino

Kaibab Grouse Trip
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Bit o frost here, too! I'm luvin' it!! You are right about where I found those birds being Rough!! But it would be very huntable. I heard them long before I saw them. They were just over the rise from me as I was glassing.... when I walked around that side glass they held for a bit (or ran a bit) and then busted out about 80 yds below me. If you ever want to give them a whirl.... let me know I am sure they will be in the same area... it is a perfect spot for 'em. CnS -

Thanks for sharing Doug! I was in 13A last week and I flushed my first ever covy of wild chuckers!!! I was stoked!! Man those suckers would be hard to hunt up there! But, so are the grouse. Good luck with the bird hunting..... but, shouldn't you be thinking Dec. Coues Deer??? CnS -

Coues 'n' Sheep replied to TATAat27's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Skin'em and sell'um!! I have to admit that I have seen a few that have been left to rot.... not by me of course... ... But, I grew up trapping and have no problem with caring for hides if they are prime. No money in them any more, but it is fun none the less. -
Chase, Welcome to the site and Congrats on a Terrific Bull!!! It is a "first page" bull according to my 2005 P&Y hard copy and that is plenty to be proud of!! Get it SCI scored now that can be done green. Congrats again! CnS

Don't know about Tim but some of us aren't lucky enough to get drawn for any of our first five choices, so we get stuck putting in for the leftover tags in units we know nothing about SO WE CAN GO HUNTING!! I don't see anything wrong with that! Dave Dude!!! You don't draw unit 23 by accident.... or after 1st & 2nd Choice!!! That would be like drawing a Dec. tag on 3rd choice..... You were not serious...... I hope....
