    December tag gripe

Bla Bla Bla...... a guy kills one forky in January and he is a Die Hard January hunter..... What about all that August huntin' you did????? Mr. Smith, Congrats to your wife on a nice buck. I hope that she is very proud of herself..... It is awesome to see the Ladies out there Slayin'em! But, I got say..... "Get over it"..... and you did.... as mentioned before the Dec. archery hunts are going fast! And that is a shame! There is pleny of room for 50 or 75 BLESSED rifle tag holders in the woods/desert when thier only competion is guys armed with bows. Wrong place, Wrong time..... it happens. The closer you get to the end of your 2 Week Rifle Hunt the better the hunting gets anyhow...... Good Luck. CnS

Anyone Heard From The Super 80

Aww Man!!! Casey, you should pick that ugly head of yours up and hold it just a might higher! Welcome to the world of "real hunting"..... There is a reason they don't call it "Killing".... The field photo says it all! That (side) rack looks big on that short snouted, small headed buck and that is a mistake we have all made when "buck fever" sets in! Atleast you killed a buck.... I have an October tag that still has the sticker on the back! Anyhow, I think your missing the point..... and I want to know more about the REAL ISSUE...... How in the Sam H*ll you blew the dang head off the danged ol' deer!!!! A guy that boasts such fabulous shooting skills and over all hunting knowledge, surely knows the difference between vitals and skull plate! Anyhow, enjoy your generous helping of Humble Pie..... we have all had a slice or two ourselves, and you will come to know that it is just the first of many that hunting will feed you with a sling shot. Bass Pro Shop

I was in BPS tonite...... what a frickin' joke..... again! I find the perfect treestand..... and convince my wife to buy it for me for X-mas.... right. So, I ask one of the kind and knowledge-less kids that work there if he can get me that one from stock, and begin the L O N G painfull wait.... just to find out, 20+ minutes later that they don't have any more.... "Okay, I'll take the display then," I say. "Um.... you would have to talk to my manager about that,".....long pause "Oh there he is. I'll be right back." Several minutes later he returns, alone. "Nope. Can't help you with that display..... It is out of the box and that means there would be a liability if we sold it to you," he says. Liabilty!!!!! The guns and bows in that place are out of the box and they sell them after countless numbers of people have handled and messed with them!!!!! I REALLY wanted that stand and I was over an hour and a half from home when those Arse Holes sent me packin' without the gift I wanted!!!!! I am Frickin' STEAMED about it!!!! I am just not sure that I ever plan to do business with any Bass Pro retail shops ever again.... The Vegas store pissed me off about 3 years ago... and I'm done. Screw them..... there is many other places to spend my huntin' dollars in Arizona. Besides that they are more expensive than the other stores, too. Thanks for allowing me to vent! CnS

How old is old enough to hunt?

I had just turned 6 when my dad let me start checkin' my own "mini" trap line..... Of course I did not know that he was checking those 6 sets for me every morning, to make sure that I did not have any trouble..... Kinda wondered why all my critters were stiff and dead when I got to them.. I was killing, skinning, and fleshing fur bearing critters from about age 7 on. That gave me a bunch of skills that I use to this day. You can't start 'em too early..... that would be like having too much money or killing a critter that was too big. IMO. CnS

My girls filled their bull tags

Well...... Thanks Troy..... I feel like a Hero after reading your post. But, hey.... it is your story. What ol' HC left out of his story is how AWESOME his daughters are!!!!!! These two girls hunted one of the most rugged units in the state and while Mother Nature poured down the rain, they hunted...... and always carried a smile. They humped canyons and mountain sides, fought brush taller than they are, climbed up & down rock bluffs, and trudged through the mud...... never once, did I hear a whine or a complaint... and yet still more smiles. Troy was kind enough to let me use the girls to test out my new Huskemaw Optics Scope and my new Berger 168 gr. VLD hand loads...... and they worked!! We showed the girls bulls and gave them good equipment but they got the job done like they had been doing it for years!!! Both girls made Great one shot kills..... and were as calm as anyone could have asked them to be..... 385 yds and 450 yds!!!!! That is good shootin'!!! Don't get me wrong they were shakin' with excitement, but when I whispered for them to take the shot when they were ready...... they sucked it up and "got'er done". I just can't express how proud I am of these two girls. In hunts such as this, the "trophy" is not measured in inches bone..... but in priceless memories that two young girls will own forever. Just to fill two bull tags with 13 year old girls in a hunt like this ought to be pretty tough.... but those girls made it easy on us by shooting straight and being TOUGH. BTW.... besides boning and packing out these two bulls I help another buddy bone and pack his wife's bull in another unit.... 3 bulls in 5 days..... my frickin' back hurts, Troy!!!!!! Just aint nuthin' like getting bloody that may times in one week!!!! Gotta love it!!!!! I have to send out a big thanks to my Boy, Colton, for his help. And to Troy and the Girls, for letting me "tag along". What a Blast! CnS

    Unit 23 monster?

FYI.... The kid whith the long Blond hair is not the hunter..... He was with Gauge when he shot the buck. And That buck is not a 3x3.... It is a 4x4, plus eyegaurds.... or a 5x5 if you count eyegaurds, and green grossed 124 6/8. There were larger bucks taken in unit 33 this year. I have not seen the pics of the other monster, but might know a little about where the buck came from. A friend had seen a buck that sounds much like the Monster you are talking about.... but never got to ground check him.... I will try to find out more. CnS

    My Wife's Carp Deer

Well I'm really proud of my wife, Tina.... she smoked up this Mulie buck at 200 yds opening morning of her deer hunt. I was Coues deer huntin' in another unit and she was hunting with my Deer Huntin' Brother, Jason Scarbrough, his son (Justin), my Son (Colton) and another hunter (14yr old, Luke). The boys had been watching this tall 4x4 buck for a while and decided that he was the best buck in Jason's Honey Hole,so they took Tina out there the night before the hunt to look him over and she liked him.... giving him the name "The Old Man". The next morning an hour before sun up... full moon..... found them sitting on the hill waiting.... and waiting.... Jason spotted bucks in the dark sparring in the yellow grass 2 draws away. As it approached shooting light they watched the group of bucks move behind the hill. Jason made the call to move across the drainage to the next ridge in the grey light. As they reached the next rise it was just at legal shooting light..... they eased over the edge and began to glass. There on the hill at 175 yards stands a big 3x3 with a sticker point.... and Tina was tempted.... she puts the rifle on him and says, "He's nice, Jason. I'm gonna take him." Just then, Luke says, "Wait! There is The Old Man! He's up and to the right of the big 3x3! Get him Tina!" Tina repositions her shooting sticks on the buck just as sun beams started to crest the horizon. Jason says, " Tina, wait till he gives you a full broadside..." Seconds drag..... the buck moves... turning slightly.... Jason leans in Tina's direction... "Tina, Shoot wh--- BOOM! ---enever...." Jason Jumps.... and so does the Buck..... Jason thought she missed and says, "Gitt'im again!" .... and then follows with, "Never mind.... he's down!!!" A double lung shot parked him about 30 yards from where she shot him. He went down in some brush with his head up, as they approached the buck they began to think he might just be bedded... so they stalked him again... But he was done. Thanks again to my buddy, Jason, and the Boys for a great hunt for Tina (Mom). God, I love my wife! Not only does she let me be gone for weeks at a time hunting, but she hunts too!!!! CnS

Why don't you add one of those smiley's with the tongue sticking out too? Can you get permission to post them? My buddy's nephew took the buck during the Juniors hunt in 23.... I will let them post it if they wish... Although.... he does look really big in that pic hangin' on my Refrigerator....

What would you do? (hunting etiquette)

That happens on every hunt now days.... and the guys that do it always think they are funny. Now days guys consider every spot, their spot, weather they are hunting it for the first time or the 31st time...... Welcome to modern Opportunity hunting.... Stranding guys in the woods (flat tires) would be bad karma, though......

    Unit 23 monster?

QUOTE (Vinnie B @ Nov 16 2007, 03:58 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know there was one taken in the junior's hunt that was in the 120's. I have pics of that buck.... 124 6/8" Green Gross...... but it has 5 scoreable points on one side and 4 scoreable points on the other..... and is a really awesome buck!

    Caliber preference

dang it, Lark!!!! You got me, there!! I never could put my finger on why I fancy that ol' .300 Wby Mag..... but, now that you mention it.... I am starting to get Real thin on top of my head. And as for my wife..... her excuse would have to be that 5" lift on her truck! You better sell all those .300's you have or you might come up with a case of puss-itus, yourself pretty soon! And for all the .243 owners out there it is a good (and ethical) caliber, IMO...... However, I just don't like it..... .... never have. CnS
