Officially worried about our future and our herds
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to wetmule's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Okay..... that kinda nauseated me..... I think those guys have a different definition of the word Conservation in thier Dictionaries than I do. Are people not aware that as long as humans inhabit the earth its ecosystems are impacted by us??? Unless we all live in a glass Bio-dome it can NEVER be like it was before we got here!!!! I think people have too much free time on thier hands to think that crap up and do studies on it!!! And yes, wet mule, that STATIC scares the stuffin' right out of me!!!!! That crap just ruined my day....... thanks....... This is a great time to point out that..... I HATE GREENIES!!!!!! Where is Tony, when you Actually need him and his loud writing????? Help us Mr. Wizard!!!!! -

Long range rifles?
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to mattobertin's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Well said, Tim! There is a lot of personal ethics involved in this style of hunting, just as in All styles/types of hunting. We owe it to the animals we hunt. CnS -
salt and feed no more in 2009
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I just got off the phone with someone intimately involved with writing the rule, and as of now, SALT is still included in it just like any other substance -- "placed for the purpose of hunting or taking any big game." That said, the final wording is far from conclusive yet since it will go through a couple of different reviews by various internal mechanisms before it reaches the form for public input and eventual presentation to the commission. -TONY Tony, I am not arguing your source or that your source is higher up the ladder than mine. However, there are 4 people writing this new rule and they are not done yet and they, at this time, have no intention of incuding salt for a couple of reasons.... First: it occurs natually all over the state as well as everywhere cattle graze. Second: they do not believe that it "alters" the daily habits of game animals.... or cause them to change thier travel patterns. They believe that food type "baits" do alter the natural travel patterns and therefore increasing success and leading to the "need" for a new rule. From my understanding they will make the final wording so that their are NO loop holes. I am quite certain that if this rule does not reduce the harvest numbers ans they think it will..... they will find something else help to reduce success and then something else... until the numbers are where they want them...IMO. SCI scoring
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
No..... It Cleany Smoked pasted the current SCI N\T Archery Coues #1 even with the scoring job they did. I just think that they did not take what they were doing as serious as they should. Their mind set was about like that of a bunch of guys around the campfire "throwing a quick tape".... They for got that what they were doing could be "Perminent", thank God we were aware.... and that he can get the re-measure. The more I think of their attitude about it, the more it bugs me. If they did this, to this buck, how many other trophies "officially measured" by these guys were "subjective" or "evened out"??? What a Joke.... Thanks for all the support everyone, and I know it means even more to Jeremy. We will see you all on Sunday at the ISE with the rack in hand. Jeremy threatened me with having to carry that canvas bag half the time.... .... I ain't Skeert! CnS -

Bull poop. 150 archery kills in ONE UNIT? What was that Mark Twain said about statistics? That is what the man said.... 150 and that would be up from about 90 in 2006 if I'm not mistaken! -

I spoke at great length to a WM in the field this weekend and, come to find out, he is one of the four AZGF guys that are writing the new rule.... The NEW RULE will be very much like the bear baiting rule, but more broad. Water and Salt will still be ok..... However, any other bait substance placed for the purpose of hunting or taking any big game will be Illegal. Probably as soon as Jan. 2009 and there is no stopping this new rule. Done deal, end of story, it will not be up for any discussion. FYI, also, 2008 Dec. archery is gone for atleast 3 years in unit 22... according to the stats in 2007 rifle and archery harvests in unit 22 were at 150 each. CnS -
SCI scoring
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
The two "official" looking guys and the guy who wore the Cabelas shirt (and ran the cable),said they were Master SCI measurers. The Official guys said they would rescore it, but prefirred not to do it at time (or in the present company..... more or less). Couestaxi.... I can't speak for my buddy.... but I bet he'd run it down just so you could do it. He is SUPER PROUD of his buck (whatever it scores) but does believe the buck deserves every 1/8 that he grew to be recorded... that is what makes the SCI score special.... as we all know nets are for fisherman! -

SCI scoring
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I'm not willing to post the score he got.... cuz it isn't my trophy and I know that in this case the P&Y Score is far more important anyway and will be well published come March, so you can read the whole story. But I will tell you that even though I think it was a low score he is still well within the top 20 SCI all time N/T coues entries and the new #1 SCI N/T archery coues! Oh, and we will have him (the buck) with us at the ISE show on Sunday March 9th, I think.... At least, that is what I heard last night... might have to keep your eyes open for a guy with a wicked, beaming smile and a dingy canvas sack in his hands! And thank for the replys, guys... Glad to think that I might not be Crazy on this deal.... CnS -

I think that we (Huntn coues, extreme coues, myself, and our families) will be there on Sunday. Gunna try to drag JasonClay down as well. Amanda, Can you save me an Epperson Orange and a Tan Shedhunter shirt in XL......Please. Thanks. CnS -
I have the Accubrake on one of my 300 Wby's and an Answer Products Brake on the other.... Both are loud!! LOL!! But, the gun with the accubrake is not quite as accurate as the other (may have nothing to do with the brake) and the Accubrake rifle kicks harder, too. I prefir a streamline break that can be taken off for cleaning. Just my $.02 ...... CnS

salt and feed no more in 2009
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
The question is, reguardless if there was 5 or 500 hunters standing together as one at those meeting would they really listen??? I agree that it is worth every effort, but they sound as if it is and has been a done deal from the beginning. I am against them taking anything else from us. We should all stand together and we should all quit shoving our noses in the air about this and other topics! If any of the methods that are used by hunters in this state are unethical then they are unethical in Texas, accross the Midwest, Canada, Africa, and Everywhere else that anyone has hunted!! But I don't think this topic is unethical in ANY of those places or illegal, for that matter. We are not hunting behind high fences..... That is unethical!!! They make more rules to "help management"???.... Why not use what they have??? If they can predict the annual harvest every year, would it not then be easier to "manage" the herd??? They seem to do a good job with Bears on a Harvest Objective System... it is a proven management tool. So why, I ask, do they need more rules and more paper work to manage deer (specifically archery deer)????? First they put deer to a draw... more units to follow.... then they outlaw "attractants"..... do they inforce it just on hunters or on all the home owners in rural AZ that feed the deer, elk, pigs, Squirrels, & Birds???? They "Create" all this Extra work just so that it "appears" that they are proactively managing the herds. I am sorry, but this is a JOKE.... another example of Big Government, Over Governing. It will next be how to limit the use of certain power optics, Double Bull blinds, Trail Cams, compound bows, rifle scopes.... yada, yada, yada..... They are already working to take the ability to recover game with a 4-Wheeler.... but don't waist that game meat!!!! Wake up!!! We have to STAND TOGETHER!!!! CnS -
