How to Squirrel Hunt?
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to bowsniper's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
+1 That is how we always hunted them as well.... however, with the lil' guy you might consider a 4/10 shotgun. Good luck. Squirrel hunting is a great leason in eating what you shoot.... Pretty good table fair and the kids get a sense of putting food on the table for the familly! -
Suspend Campaign for Econ Crisis???
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Ben-Dover's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I got this in an email yesterday..... and it is a dang better sollution than what our polititians will come up with..... I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend. To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.. So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00. My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend. Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam. But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00. What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family? Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved. Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads Put away money for college – it’ll be there Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs. Buy a new car – create jobs Invest in the market – capital drives growth Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces. If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’ s really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President. If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+! As for AIG – liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up. Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t. Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.” But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party! How do you spell Economic Boom? I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We Deserve It Dividen d more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC. And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam. Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest. Kindest personal regards, Birk T. J. Birkenmeier, A Creative Guy & Citizen of the Republic &n bsp; &n bsp; PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it’s either good for a laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought on how to best use $85 Billion!! -

CONCERNS WITH COUESWHITETAIL.COM
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to tjhunt2's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Is my first thought when reading the first posts of this thread.... And..... Is my second thought....... And.... If there was an emoticon that spelled out Boo-Hoo..... ... it would be my third thought! I also agree with Rembrant about using pm's to "share" info with a member.... or pick up a phone... I share info all the time... on a 1 on 1 basis... not on the world wide web. It is a matter of courtesy to my fellow hunters who have busted a hump and burned fuel & resourses to learn a unit and be a better/more proficient hunter. Showing your knowelge of a particualr unit to all the e-scouters does not impress me or anyone else who has hunted hard for very long.... I know a lot of other people's "Honey Holes"... that does not provoke me to go there or to tell someone else about it.... that is my personal choice..... a choice that many others are not willing to make in an effort to make "new friends" or seem "important" to their peers. I, also, agree with Bowhunter4life in that the subject matter should be kept free of vulgarities or suggested vulgarities. Nothing related to hunting needs to involve those things.... I love reading and being a contributing member of this site very much.... I enjoy the differences in opinion as much as I enjoy the success stories, or informative threads..... I think "thin skinned" is a very good way of putting it... If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen... I have been unjustly crucified by Trolls/Lurkers... I am still here. I, and my points of view, have been the center of great debate here and responsible to some obviously hard feelings at times.... (guilty, as Casey would say).... I am known for saying what I think and believing what in what I say. I love a good old fashion debate... you win some and you loose some. I will probably be slammed for having an opinion now, but I have broad shoulders and can handle burden. Our differences and our similarities are what bring us here, we need not harbor Perminent hard feellings about mere words or ruin "life-long" friendships because we feel the need to express a point, or over express a point. Opinions are what make this site and our Country a great place to be. I have made many friends here on CW.com and hope to make a few more. And to those I have offened or have offened me.... "No hard feelings.... I'm over it.... you should be, too!" -

HaHa! Small world.... Just got back in town and had a call from a buddy that said a bull we call T-Rex (or Python) is posted up on CW.Com!!! And he is right! This bull is still alive... although the "smaller" (360ish) bull that we called "Jack" was killed by a local guy the day before yesterday.... and you should have pics of him in that canyon/basin as well.... 7x7 w/ double third on the right.... The little bulls you have on cam are both still alive as best I know.... and they might be back in there by Nov. But rest assured it will take nothing less than a Miricle for T-Rex to make it past the early Rifle hunt... he is now well known by too many people... We had several close incounters with T-Rex in the archery hunt but could never get inside of a 100 yds.... I do have an hour of video of Jack and T-Rex including a fight between the two as well as a 2 year old rightside shed that I gave to my buddy who has been watching this bull for the last 3 years in that area... If you know who ground checks T-Rex please let me know we all have bets on what he scores (gross) and I am saying about 380"- 385"...... and I have friends that put him at almost 390" ..... those pics do not show him off as good as the real life or video. Good luck on your hunt. -
Well, it all started back in June when my Bro-in Law, Larry, and his wife, Linda, started scouting for her antelope hunt in central AZ. After obtaining the good info and talking to the ranchers about private land access, they were able to start to look. On their first scouting adventure they found the buck she would end up shooting on opening morning at 6:15 am. Linda already has a buck hanging on her wall that is just under 88" net B&C that she took on Fain Ranch back in the late 90's, and when she saw this first goat on the first scouting trip she said, " I want him! He has character!" Larry told her he had lots of scouting to do and that he might find better. After several scouting trips made by Larry with me or his brother, Dallas, in tow.... the unit had been looked at very hard and Larry became more comfortable with the mature "character" buck that Linda wanted. After talking to some of the other hunters in the unit Larry found out that they, too, thought the buck, called "Captain Hook" was one of the best, if not the best buck in the unit and so the decision was made by him to watch this buck for the entire day before the hunt and let Linda take a crack at him on opening morning. Opening morning dawned with us rolling across the flats to where we planned to park. My wife, Tina, and I came on the hunt to help out and of course to "Get Bloody" with the rest of the family. Larry's Brother, Dallas was also there ready to help and the hunt was on!! We had no had our optics up for no more than a minute when Larry says, "I got him!". It was agreed that Larry and I would stalk with Linda, while Tina and Dallas kept a close eye on the three bucks and one doe that were feeding together out on the flat. We dropped down over a ridgeline and headed their way... in a short time we had Linda set up at 225 yds on the still feeding goats.... The kill shot was a deafening roar... a " Whack'... and a folded up speed goat!! The buck is a Dandy!! 16 7/8 inches of length on both horns and over 6" of mass on the bases & 4 1/2" above the paddles, with 5 5/8 on the prongs! Congrats, Sis!!!! And Congrats to Larry for putting his wife on the second awesome Antelope of a liftime!!! And another "family hunt" success for all of us!!! Note: No electronic devices were used in the taking of this animal. BTW..... The Berger 168 VLD's in my 300 Wby mag were used on this hunt..... A thin skinned animal at close range.... was exactly the same, consistant results as we saw last year on elk at medium range.

I know this is not a news Flash, but it still drives nut nuts! As I sit hear watching the news this morning, I jump back and forth between the two news channels so that I may get a little of everything.... I am ammazed at how differently the direction of these two news shows are at 4:30 AM..... CNN: "Sarah Palin is a religious Freak" "Alaska 'Dooms Day' video and Sarah Palin" "Biden is a hometown guy, too" "Biden says Macain/Palin have nothing for our country" "Palin is.... This, that, and the other...." And on and on and on... about beating on this gal.... and what a Loser she is. Fox News: "Opra refuses to have Palin on her show" " Huricane Ike" "Sarah Palin is really helping make Macain a stronger canidate" "search for missing Casey is on hold because of flooding" "Sara Palins" eye glasses are flying off the shelf!" " Pres. Bush and his last "South Lawn" tee Ball game" "North Korean Leader may have been dead since 2003?" As well as several other news tid-bits....... Diffence I saw..... One did nothing but praise the Demacrats and Slam the Republicans.... The other mangaed to still get some news and commentary in as well as talk about the politics.... It just blows me away......

No exit.... about 30% bullet retention laying under the skin on the far side.... you could not even tell the buck was hit at first glance..... the entrance was the the size of the bullet for the first 2"- 3" of penetration and then Ka-Boom... a 3"-4" wound channel and liquid organs. Instant Dead Goat!

Advice on archery turkey?

If the hunting is tough... sitting a feed source mid-day can be very productive.... At least it was for me. -
We put a quick tape on him with the unit WM and came up with about 82 1/2'" - 83" gross.... but that is not exact.

Advice on archery turkey?
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to NativeRat's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
There are feeders every quarter mile in Texas... ... even when you are trying not to hunt on the feeders..... you are hunting on the feeders! I shot my first Rio this spring on a 2 day hunt in SW Texas and the hunting was tough so I sat on a feeder part of the time.... it was as productive as sitting the water and stalking turkeys from the road on the way into and from the blinds.... all methods are good and success should be pretty high on feed or water this time of year, I would think. Also I used 100 grain Spitfires with great success on the bird I got.... but they do make a big hole..... also... FYI... think about the wind when you shoot.... it is always blowing down that way and it cost me a Huge Tom. Good Luck!! -
