Cabelas tent cots
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to mattobertin's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I'd vote against spending the $$$ as well. I often throw my Butler bag in the bed of my truck and through a tarp over or if weather looks bad, a Cot on the ground next to the truck and a $10 tarp makes great make shift tent! IMO.... I have also wraped my bedrole in a tarp and layed out on the ground as well.... I perfer mobile and versitile on those scouting trips. Best of luck! -

Congats, Clay!!!! Congrats to your Wife as well! -
Congrats, Jared!!!! You are one heck of good shot... you did a great job!! I have to say I know that Jared was very sure of his shot placement on the quartering-to buck... He called double lung... it was that, and then some! He put the bullet right where I asked him to aim at 450 yards!! He was less rattled than Mike or myself!!! A real Cool Cat.... that Jared!! Here is the entrance of the 168 Berger VLD ( a paper punching bullet)!

Cousins Git-er-Done on a Youth Hunt
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Youth Hunters
The chair was a product of two things.... tall grass & brush on the hillside and how close the truck was parked to the location he was set up... It was easier to pull out the chair than to muck out the grass and brush. It made for a very compfortable and relaxed kid, too! Thanks everyone for the responses! I know the Boys & Dads will read them. (Ya know how those Lurkers are.... ) Everyone had a great weekend! I am sure that we all wanted in our hearts to ground check a Monster.... but instead we had a Monster Weekend of success with all the boys and everyone went home happy with deer in hand! The hunting with youths need only be as hard as it takes to be successful.... if you do not make it fun/enjoyable for them... they lose interest. We built toward the future with these boys, hoping to make them hungry for a Bigger and Harder hunt next time. My nephew (Clayton) will be back behind The Tradition for a late bull tag at the end of Nov.... and let me tell you.... He is Hungry!!! Now, if we could just get a another Dad on this site to hurry up and post pics and a story of his son's Junior's Hunt.....Not that I would mention any names...... Mike! That is how Zip got bloody three times in three days! Jade, I did not get "Zip" from that movie.... actually, never watch it.. Another guy asked me the same thing last week.... I had no clue. I actually call him "Zipper" most of the time..... but if you were to see how his 10 wk old legs carry him around, the name "Zip" makes perfect sense! -

Laser Rangefinding Binoculars
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to DesertDweller's topic in Optics and tripods
Along the same lines.... I have a question..... Does Leica make a 10x50 rangefinding bino and are they tilt compensating???? Something like that is exactly what I am looking for for deer hunting! Thanks! -
Way to go!! Nice Buck!!

That is a great deer!!! Congrats!

I am guessing they were hunting Bear as it was the only other thing open. Good luck tramping around in that thick nasty stuff aimlessly for a Bear. HaHa... that last guy looks like TJ.....

Ernie! Glad you finally got on here, Kiddo!! It took you long enough! Tell your Dad hello! Great pics, Congrats!! You need to share some more of your pics!! FYI.... Everyone...... Ernie was my ACE pitcher & home run hitter on a Little League team I coached in 1995 or 1996.... he is a great kid!!! He looked me up last year and sent me some pics of their last few hunting seasons.... He has become quite the hunter and I am sure his Dad is proud! Gino -
We had the pleasure of meeting Brad on "the Strip" last year and all I can say is, "Thanks, Brad!".... What a great guy! All the guys he hunts with are awesome as well!! I'd hunt with those guys any time and their pics are proof of the results they put up in ol' Mex!

IMO..... Any comfortable internal packframe..... Line the inside with a heavy duty 55 gal trash bag.... slide 4 quarters and all the boned meat off of the torso into the pack and add the head and cape to the top..... and away you go! BTW... make sure you get the meat out of the bag ASAP once at the truck or quad! I air cool the meat before loading the pack last thing... it buys you enough time to get it out in the plastic.

A few more elk scouting pics
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to thegunsmith2506's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Not much of an elk man, but I couldn't get 385 out of him or even close. I hope the guy that kills him does though and more. I too, fought how to score him..... The pics on here do the bull no justice.... in all the video I have and the hours of looking at him on the hoof.... I started at mid-370's and slow talked myself up to 380"-385".... and am probably wrong.... the longer I look at a bull the more I second guess the score..... -
Happy BDay
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Thanks everyone for the posts, the PM's, and the phone calls!!! It was a good day at work and an outstanding evening of drinking beers on the porch with my Beautiful Bride.... just the two of us... she sang me "Happy Birthday" over one candle on a big ol' whipcream iced cake with a deer head and fall colors on top! Just me and her and the dogs! What a perfect evening! Thanks again! TJ, A friend of a friend took that dog (Shiela), you love so much off my hands about 2-3 months ago.... ... she had an issue that I couldn't seem to fix and he thinks she is the most perfect dog just as she is.... sooo.... she is happier where she is and very well loved. My wife knew I was pretty bummed about the whole deal, however, and brought me home a new lil' "Heeler" pup this last week for my B-day present.... Heelers are the most perfect dogs for me and my lifestyle, so this was the greatest gift, and my ol' female heeler is really showing her age as of late and being that she is "The Best Dog" I have ever owned.... there is much that I want her to teach this pup. It has already begun..... I'll post up some pics soon. Mike, I think I drank one for all my friend who were not there! Thanks, again! G -
Outstanding!!! Congrats on the moose and thanks for sharing! Can't wait to let my wife read your post, it is awesome to hear about women hunters and see the results!!!! Congrats!!
