Mr. Smith, With no dis-respect intended are you a bow hunter? I would bet, considering this kid's "handle" he is shooting the best equipment out there.... and I bet .019 (or smaller) pins on that bow he is shootin'. Not only have I done it but know many others that have pulled 3" or smaller groups at 90, 100, and beyond at non-moving targets, with .019 pins. A bedded buck is the perfect target, I have seen hunters wound and lose elk 20yds or less. It is pretty safe to guess that there is no "luck" in the fact that the arrow struck the "boiler room" on this deer.... however, making all the right choices after the shot can make or break the best shots. Don't hate the kid cuz he can shoot.... he just needs to get back out there and recover his deer. There is no substitute for Effort at this point! Lets wish him the best and hope he gets lucky out there.

Here are a few more pics that I was not able to download before. Bittner..... You Da Man!!!! -
Wow that's amazing to pass a coues up like that. But the way I see it is if the buck don't do for you let him walk. I guess that missing g3 saved that bucks life. Good Luck to guys and go stick'em!! Well he has taken enough coues deer to know what he wants this time. Only day 3 and he really wants a Trash Buck (Non-Typ)... or else just flat big..... but I have seen him weaken in the last days of January before! I hope he gets a big one or waits to put in rifle with me! Congrat, Again on a great buck, Ernie! A nice Muley buck is high on my list!

Happy B-day, Kid!!!!!

Well said. I am sorry for your situation.... I have no doubt that he was confident in the shot at that distance on a stationary target. You slung one arrow and hit one small deer at a distance that most can't hit a Truck from.... you were prepared...IMO. Many strange things happen when an arrow strikes a coues... and they are tough, way tougher than most give credit for. I have helped hunt, look for, and recover over 20 archery harvested coues deer bucks in the last 9 hunting seasons... and I have also followed trails that never ended. The biggest mistake is being confident of your hit and going after the deer. Unless you watch the buck go down anything less than an hour or two is too soon and 4 -12 hours is being safe if you have doubts. Sound like maybe one lung..... that buck will live 3-6 hours. I have learned this by trial and Error.... I wish you guys the very best luck and hope you find him. Keep after it! don't give up you owe it to your buck!

+1, I mean his beams dont even touch! Awesome job guys! Gino, what bullet from that .257 wby? Hey now.... don't throw stones just cuz he broke a couple inches off! That broke G2 will count as over a third of the over all deductions when they B&C him.... Nets are for fishermen any how! But he should net 114"- 115" as a guess.... Casey, Erin shoots the Barnes Triple shock... and swears by them! Judging by what it did to the inside of this buck I would recomend that bullet in the .257 Wby. anytime! Almost as devistating as a Berger! -
I'll keep all your guns Safe for you!

Grrrrr! That SUCKS! Sorry man......

Way to Go, Ernie!!!! Great Buck!! I am so impressed with what a hunter you have become, and I bet your Dad sure is proud as well!!! Congrats.... and hurry up and get Dad one so we can see some more pics!!! Hey, thought you'd like to know that Colton passed up a coues buck that would have gone over a 100" yesterday. The buck was rutting a doe and was all around him for like 30 min..... he didn't shoot cuz the buck didn't have a g3 on the right side. Crazy!

Those are just rifle kills, they shouldn't impress the great TREESTANDMAN! Just kidding I appreciate it! I've been lucky a few times. I've got 1 more to pick up from the taxidermist and 2 to drop off! Can't get enough of these coues! Nice bucks, Shorty! The one on the left is a Dandy!!! -

Well I thought Erin was going to sign on today and give the score, but since he didn't I guess I'll do it! Well we will se what Clay gets out of him after the drying period, but I come up with 119 1/8 Gross with probably almost 2 inches broken off of the right G2.... A whopper typical buck!! Thanks for all the replies and to those that guessed! -
T, Solid performance for sure... That is one heck of year for coues sheds. When I talked to Antlerdog about where to find the gems of the arizona hillsides he described some of your advice included. Good stuff there. Thanks for sharing the pics... AzP&Y It's been a busy year for me (working alot) And I really can't count all the big antlers I found south of the border. But my shed hunting, hunting partner ( SIDERACK ) found 103 coues deer sheds this year. I was kinda dissappointed in him for not getting out at least one more time to surpass the 107 coues sheds he found in 2007! Jim Yeah that Jake..... Slackin' again!
