Elk and Antelope applications down.
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Noel Arnold's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You are right Bob..... however.... this year the money is tight all over, folks are looking at the "I wants" and putting them aside for the "I needs". I know lots of folks that are doing only BP's this year and I think draw odds will be up on many units. I think the way i put myself in I will have a better chance this year of drawing those hunts vs. last year..... IMO.... and only time will tell, but I am clinging to the glimmer of hope!! -
I'll trade you a pair of 10x42 SLC straight across... or somethin' like that....

Elk and Antelope applications down.
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Noel Arnold's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I was thinkin' that as many as 30% might just have been going to put in for BP's... that should help a bunch! But I know one Outfitter that had an Out-of State client list that 30% put in just like normal, 30% did just BP's and 30% said "Can't do anything, this year!"..... if the in state apps show anything close to that trend I am gunna get drawn for something!!!!! -

Great buck , Bill!! A No Brainer.... regaurdless of score!!! Kinda currious, your post makes me wonder if they scored that split on the left off of the beam?? It appears to have a common base and would have to be scored off the beam if so..... just currious. It was scored off the beam. My next quest is to find a decent cape, his might be too damaged. --Bill Clay @ Mogollon Taxidermy just took the capes from us off our Jan. bucks.... Mine was a 101" buck with good bases and a really rusty forehead.... Bet you could buy that off of him or better yet you won't be soory if you have him mount that Bad Boy for you!

When does the San Carlos start selling tags?
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to RoughCut's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
LOL!!! What luck! My buddy's cousin is on the list!!! Should have figured that, he is a dam good hunter.... best bear caller I have ever hunted with!! He kept a small bear within 15 yds of me for over 10 minutes, one time as I videoed after passing him with my bow!! Anyhow that was good to know.... Thanks Amanda! -

Will any trible member of the SC satisfy the "guide" requirement? I know a guy, he is a friend's cousin... and we have hunted together in 28/31, but he lives on the SC and is a member. That is why I asked. -

I thinks this illustrates the amount of BS our elected officials are feeding us with these Bailouts/Stimulus!! -

You are so right, Terry! Just can't understand why we can't find an Edjumacated Redneck to be OUR voice, instead of these Over Educated Jack Wads we got now! -

Hey what are the SC tags going for now-days??? Also, can you DIY or do you have to hire a guide/have a Tribal member with you? -

Being patient after the shot....
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I learned a few more leasons this season.... Both animals/situations that I intend illustrate are liver shot coues and hit low. The first, was given plenty of time (over night) with no pursuit, but was "bumped" by an un-known... likely, elk coming up it's back trail 20 minutes after the shot. The very good blood trail disapeared (to the eye) after the deer went to a run... this buck appeared to run to his death and was recovered over a 1/4 mile away up a drainage in the original direction the deer was traveling. It apeared that when the deer went to a run he was heading to the left.... but apparently he was heading somewhere, and somehow resumed that path. The thought that a wounded deer won't go far uphill is out the window once they have gone to flight mode. Grid searching every inch of country with as many people as possible is the only way to recover your animal before the meat and cape are lost. The second, was impacted by un-forcasted rain storm 40 minutes afer the shot. Even more blood than the first buck... almost like buckets of blood. Because of the rain we moved in to soon... the blood was washing away! We bumped the buck and lost the blood trail less than 200 yds from the POI... he probably would have been right there after the storm... had we waited. The buck ran to the bottom of the canyon and then started up the canyon bottom....once again apeared to run to his death, and I found him 3/4 of a mile from the POI, again in the bottom of the drainage. Once again man power was the key to success and the meat was good! What I learned.... The best laid plans can go bad on you.... Effort and man power can get you back in the game! -
6-7 inches in my neck o' the woods.... Cars all over in the ditches and lots of wrecks!! The Scanner has been going Nuts all day!!! Why is it that people are too stupid to stay hope when the weather is bad.... there was a head on just up the highway from here a while ago.... no injuries. STAY HOME till the storm quits!!!

It was a good show... It really illustrated how jump and cagey these are are... Did you see how that doe bolted from their view??? I think that it was cool that he would air an unsuccessful hunt. I was surpriesed that the guy helping him didn't have more tricks in his bag.... I mean if you had a guy coming to hunt with you, I think that more than 3 different deer in 3 days would have been achieveable.... Glad I caught the show.... I was assuming 24A, 27, 28, or maybe 23 south.... based on the elk comment. They should have been hunting higher numbers down south.... IMO.
