Elk loads for a .45 cal
mzlloader replied to TATAat27's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
My wife has taken 3 elk with her .45 cal muzzy, she shoots 110 grains of loose poweder and a 275 grain powerbelt, she keeps her shots under 125 yards 2 of her elk have dropped where they stood and the 3rd went 48 yards and piled up, Its funny to here people say that a 45 is to small for elk, Whats the differnce between her 110 grains of loose powder and a 275 grain bullelt out of her 45, and some one who is shooting a 50 cal. with 110 grains of loose powder and a 275 grain bullet, 110 grains of powder by weight and a 275 grain bullet by weight is just that be it out of a 45 or 50 or 54 for that matter, -

Traditional Muzzleloader tips?
mzlloader replied to BASS's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
Ok First thing I do when I get a new side lock, is take the nipple off that comes from the factory and get a hot shot nipple or a perfect nipple, both of these nipples have a slighly larger hole and will let more of the spark get thru. If you are using a musket cap, which I see you are you are haveing some type of blockage in the bolster chamber, you may want to also try some new poweder you very well could have gotten some bad powder, but is unlikly I am shooting powder that has been open for over a year now, Second thing, if I use Pyrodex in a side lock, I will load 5 grains of 3 f black powder in first, (but no more than 5 grains), some of you may look at me a little crazy, but if you look at the pyro or 777 pellets, there is a small black ring on one end this is blackpowder. also you really want to make sure the chamber is dry, remove the bolster screw and run a pipe cleanner in a few times, then fire a couple of caps off to dry it. most caps will fit loose on the nipple, if you switch to one of the above nipples they will fit a little tighter, if not gentley squezz the cap, this will make it fit a little tighter on the nipple you have. smoke poles can be very very fun, but on the flip side can be very very very frustaiting, Just remember if you ever buy a side by side muzzle loading shot gun, and you want to replace the factory nipples. if you go to the gun shop and a good looking lady ask if she can help you........ Dont blurt out the words, yes man I need a pair of perfect nipples. take it from experice it can get very emberssing, LOL R L -

Josh ya hit the nail right smack on the head I will have the Honor this year of taking a young man from wisconsin it unit 4b for a early muzzleloder bull hunt, I am really looking foward to helping out with this great cause. and like josh said, Once the word got around, a lot of local bussiness here in wickenburg and Prescott have stepped up and have donated Food, and even a local gas company here is going to take care of all gas expenses, I have been on the phone several times with the young man, and I tell you this, each and every time I have a big ol lump in my throat when I get done talking to him, and Like Terry said if you have a tag and you are not going to use it, get a hold of Terry Petko and donate it. you will help make a young persons Dream come true, R L Gray Arizona Trophy Hunter Guide and Scouting Svc Owner/Guide -

mzlloader replied to mzlloader's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife

I have taken a small elec box, cut out the from for sensors and flash and cam, cut to holes in the back of the box, so I can put a cable with lock thru it the lock is inside the box, and a lock goes on the door, so far I have not had any stolen I have 9 out on public land, Pic 1, the box, cam, and cable Pic 2 mounted box from front Pic 3 mounted box from side, you can see the cable, it is one of the master lock cables

Sorry but they are Protected by both State and Federal Law http://www.azgfd.gov/w_c/urban_raptors.shtml Removal is usually not an option: Raptors are protected by both state and federal laws, and harassing, trapping, killing, or even possessing bones or feathers without the proper permits can result in large fines. Raptors are territorial, and moving a bird to another area may cause it to fight with the current occupants or just fly back using its excellent sense of direction. Most problems are short-term and can be resolved with tolerance or a few small changes. Learning about raptors is the best way to understand how to live with them.

All in all its a mood point. and does not really matter to me, if you can deduct it Great, everyone knows we need all we can get now days. I was just quoating IRS. and like I said there are ways around everything, I am not a tax guy and there are so many rules and reg on the subject. Thats why I take my stuff to an accountant.
-
Michael I do understand what you are saying, I am not arguing that point, yes game and fish gives xxxxxx organizaion a elk, deer, or what ever tag, That organization, raffles, or auctions the tag off. and even then you cannot deduct the whole donation,(there are ways around it, but whoever does it better have their ducks in a row) what I mean by this is. lets just use RMEF they raffle a Non Guided elk Hunt. someone buys 200 tickets at 10 bucks each, he wins the tag, all that can be deducted is the Value of what he won, in the case 83.00 bucks the price of the tag. same goes with an auction the only part that can be deducted is the value of what was bought. Like I said there are ways around everything but if IRS calls and does an audit you better be prepared. I am not trying to argue the with anyone here. Just so you know where I got that info I called IRS and got the info. so the tax deductions are there but just not as huge as one would think.
-
Michael was not sure on that but good if you can I just dont see it here Charitable Contributions - Types of Qualified Charitable Organizations Generally, only the six following types of charitable organizations can be qualified charitable organizations and accept tax deductible charitable contributions. The United States, a U.S. Possession, a state, city, or town, or Indian tribal government; A community chest, corporation, trust, fund, or foundation organized or created in or under the laws of the United States, any state, the District of Columbia, or any possession of the United States (including Puerto Rico). It must be organized and operated only for the following purposes: Religious, Charitable, Educational, Scientific, Literary purposes, or For the prevention of cruelty to children or animals; Certain organizations that foster national or international amateur sports competition also qualify; Domestic non-profit veterans' organizations or auxiliary units; A domestic fraternal group operating under the lodge system; Nonprofit cemetery and burial companies (your charitable contribution must benefit the whole cemetery, not your burial plot); Legal services corporations organized under the Legal Service Corporation Act if so good we need all the deductions we can get, I still dont think game and fish is a charitable organiztion. is it. Oh and those raffle tickets I bought last year were for a bow that a local CHURCH was giving away

Amanda Thanks I have been in touch with John from the Flag office, I will be up there some time on sat, I need to drop the wife off at the airport at 5am then I am headed up R L

Well I was not going to reply to this at all, yall got good and bad points and opinons on the matter. and that is just what they are opinions every one is entitled to there own. here are some points that were not brought up. Game and fish are now publishing the reg in spanish, I thought we used english in the United States. what a waste of money. Just my opinion. Game and Fish is doing a roadless study and paying for it. I thought that was BLM's back yard, Why do the sportsman have to fund this study, Just My opinion Those are just two. if that money was used to HELP our wildlife instead of those programs, well you get my drift, Just my opinon. Now as far as tax deductions, I dont think you can deduct any money paid for an auction or a raffle, I know that I donated a couple of 100 buck on raffle tickets last year, but could not use it as a tax deduction because it was on chance I would get someing in return. I also could not find any where where game and fish is a non prophit organization. and that is who is holding the raffle, and where the money goes. I do belive the money goes to the animals on the tags, IE ELk tag money goes to help elk here in Az, Muledeer to help muledeer, and so on and so on. like I said just my opinion and .01 cents worth cause I cant afford to give the other .01 cent my ex wife gets it and before some says it, Yes I may not donate a lot of money, But I do donate sweat and time, I will be in unit 9 this weekend helping up there and I always carry items in my jeep to mend a fence or tack down some tin that has come off a catchment in my home area.
