My son is looking for a project to do for his Eagle Scout Badge and is really looking at improving a water catchment in the local area. This being said, trying to find the right person to talk to is quite a challenge. Do any CWT members have any good contact numbers? We would really like to be able to do the project in the 37A/B. 33, 36A/B/C areas as these are areas that we frequent alot and really would like to give back. If any of you members out there have any information that could be provided we would greatly appreciate it.

Well my 16 y/o son drew his first Bull tag this year and to say the least was quite excited. It was a rifle tag and the hunt started on the 5th of Oct. We left the trailer real early as the area i had chose to take him to was a ways away from our camp and I wanted to get in and quieted down well before sunrise. As the sun started to crack the horizon we got our gear together and went over a few last minute details at which time i gave him the final say as to what our plan would be. After he had made the choice we set off. The morning was not cold by any means and things were VERY quiet, no bugles at all. We worked our way down a clearcut sidehill into a small bottom where we picked up a trail that came off a waterhole that was a mere 1/4 mile away. As we worked our way along the trail we came into an area and decided to sit in hopes something would come off of the waterhole as they went from their feeding area to the bedding area. As we sat we had the opportunity to watch a few Turkeys walk within about 60 yards oblivious to our presence. As the turkeys passed i looked at my watch, 0654, i told Cody that at 0700 we would work our way along the trail and head to another water hole about a mile away where we would sit a blind for the remainder of the day. At 0700 we proceeded along the trail my son following behind me. We had walked about 50 yards when my son whispered, "Dad stop, theres an Elk up on the sidehill". We stopped and i worked my way quietly back to my son, raised my binos and saw nothing but the tail end of an Elk. I looked intently and saw no antlers and proceeded to tell my son it was a cow, he replied "No dad, i see antlers". I raised the binos one more time and this time i saw antler tips but wasnt sure as to how big of a bull it was. I continued to survey the Bull and asked Cody if he was sure he wanted to take it, to which he replied "Oh I'm sure" so i said "Get after it". Cody took a seat, calmed his nerves and squeezed the trigger, the bull raised his head as if to say, "what was that?" then immediately went back to feeding, Cody had missed! Cody chambered another round and fired again, another miss! the bull never even flinched and continued to feed. Cody again chambered a round and fired again, this time the Bull dropped in his tracks! What i did not know is that the lane Cody had to shoot through was very narrow and he only had about a 6" wide gap between a couple of trees to shoot through. Cody and I Whooped and Hollered gave each other a great big hug then promptly proceeded up to the Bull. As we approached slowly i realized why he insisted on shotting this bull. He is not a huge bull by any means, but as this was a "rut" hunt bulls tend to be broken, this bull was an almost perfect 6x6 not a single tine broken. As Cody and i surveyed his success i was now reminded why I encouraged my boys to hunt. I do not know who was more excited, my son, or me. The emotions that I felt at that particular moment were unexplainable. I can honestly now say I know why my father loved to take us boys hunting, Thanks Dad.

I Have a Blackberry through Verizon that i use both ways, as a standalone internet access point for email and basic browsing and also I "tether" it to my laptop and use it as a modem. Like has been stated, with a Blackberry you must have a data package i beleive there are 2 options one is around $30 and it has a 1 or 2 gigabyte data limit and then you have the unlimited and i think it is around $45. Be careful on the unlimited as it does in fact have a 5 gigabyte data limit a month (and that is truly ALOT). The tethering fee is an additional $15. Keep in mind these prices may have changed since i set mine up so be sure and contact your Verizon rep for details

So me and my hunting partner headed out at O'dark-Thirty this morning to our favorite spot in hopes of getting a shot at something with velvet antlers. We arrive just as the sun comes up and get settled in on the waterhole and the wait is on. At about 0545 i catch some movement off to my left and quickly notice a lone coyote holding in the brushline surveying the waterhole. Now, for some odd reason this young dog would hold right at the brushline and never come in for water. After numerous times of him depaerting and coming back from a different angle and about an hour and a half later he finally decides his thirst is to great and heads for the water. He is straight away in front of me at 61 yards and i am contemplating taking the shot but am not quite certain i should. After convincing myself that it would either be a clean hit, or a clean miss i decide to go for it, draw back and put the 60 yard pin on the center of his spine and let her fly. As the arrow is in flight the dog does soemthing i did not anticipate, as the shot was a bit long he must have heard the release and started to turn to his left, my right, just as the arrow hit. Instead of a dead on spine shot it passed through right at his hip and severed the femoral artery and broke his hips. He bled quite profusely but it was obvious he was going to suffer so i departed the ground blind and went over and dispatched him properly. No deer but another dog bites the dust.

Ah Jeez... There is no such thing as 'But one God' in Mormonism. (As God is, so man may become-LDS theology). Want another round of history and verified LDS literature that says just that? I've got 'em under my sleeve. And C&S, if someone came on here saying this and that about the B&C minimum score for coues deer was 200 inches, don't tell me you wouldn't gently correct them! If someone came on and said you're son's coues deer from New Mexico was actually an eastern whitetail harvested in texas, wouldn't you at least say something? And if someone came on here and said coyotes can get caught by their muzzles in a leg hold and die (yes that was me), you'd probably call them out on that too. Or the typical 90 pound female lion. Or the lion that goes over 300 pounds. I think you like to call things out when you see them as much as anyone. This post is no different. So imagine something so serious that it affects every aspect of your life and potentially the hereafter, and there's a ton of sketchiness surrounding it. Then imagine someone illicits attention for it on a HUNTING site, with information that is just short of being accurate. Who in their right mind wouldn't say something! And for all the comparison about Catholicism and child molestation, you might have a case if the Catholic Church actually condoned the act and made a doctrine out of it. Because that's the issue here. Brigham Young said no man would see eternal glory unless he partook of God's new covenant of plural marriage. And the LDS church heralds him as a prophet! Should we just ignore these kinds of things? Should we just let them slide? That kind of attitude of sweeping things under the carpet is what has led this country to where it is, not because we don't all want to hold hands and sing cum-by-ya! Wow, sounds like someone has a serious dislike for LDS folks.

Went down to 36C on Friday and Saturday, had a great time on Friday and saw quite a few deer, Saturday was horrid as the wind was relentless. Friday we saw about 40 deer all but one were mulies. THe one coues we did see showed up at our blind outa nowhere at 62 yards and i passed the shot to my hunting partner which he gladly accepted only to have his arrow deflect off of a branch he could not see, oh well was a rush none the less. Out aof all the deer we did see 4 were bucks one being the coues i mentioned previously (probably a low 80's buck) and 3 mulies one of which was a toad. You can bet i'll be back out on Friday!

I am taking the day off from work on friday and hunting saturday too good luck to all!

Do any of you fellow archers who plan on being in the field for the opening day of the Dec archery hunts (in the southern units) have any problems doing so even with the late rifle hunts going on as well? I for one feel like i have just as much right to be out there chasing the critters with my bow as do the rifle hunters, but i also know that alot of rifle hunters get real pissy when they see bowhunters in the same areas, any thoughts?
-
I see you are from Tucson, what part? I am too and I am wondering how long it takes to drive to 36c? I am planning on staying in 33 and maybe 37m because I will be hunting only a day or two at a time. From where i Live in Tucson it takes me roughly an hour to drive to where i hunt in 36C which is fairly close to the middle part of the unit.
-
Well i will be in 36C with a friend of mine Friday and Saturday chasing deer with our bows, not going to camp but will drive in and out each day. Good luck to all who will be out.

Likewise, its always nice to met a fellow CWT member specially when its out doing what we like to do. I have posted a few pictures of the Bobcat my son (Cody) and I took yesterday. As you can also see there is a pretty decent sized Diamondback in the picture as well, it was one of 5 we ran into yesterday. The Bobcat was interesting, Cody and i were headed back to the truck after a short walk when i caught a glimpse of something kinda orangish colored ahead of us about 150 yards. I racked my brain and at first thought it was probably a lion so i told my son to go up one side of the small draw and i would go up the other. As we got to withing about 30 yards of where i had seen the animal disappear, my son popped off a shot with his 12ga and next thing i know this bobcat was scampering away right in front of me. I hit her with 2 shots from my 12ga and she was down. What had happened was as Cody and i worked up the sides of the draw she pegged me but had no clue Cody had come up behind her, Cody said when he saw her she was intently watching me probably hoping i would walk on by. After she had expired my son walked back over to where she had been watching me and low and behold there was another rattlesnake coiled up in a prickly pear. All in all it was a fun day, 6 quail, 1 cat, and 4 rattlesnakes. The Cat was pretty old, she was missing one of her upper canines, one lower canine, and all of her upper small teech were worn down pretty far. Me and the critters Cat and the snake Cody and the critters Critters
