What impressed me the most is that this buck took a 210gr Nosler ABLR out of my Remington 700 Sendero 300 RUM from 206 yards and still ran about 30 yards. He was walking almost straight away from me and the bullet entered left side just forward of his last rib, traveled through lung, exploded his heart, just forward of his right shoulder and lodged just under the skin forward of the right shoulder. In the picture you'll notice a dark spot on his right shoulder, thats actually the lump of the slug.

Posting this for my Son. Selling his Savage MKII topped with a Baraska Hunt-master 3-9x40 scope. Rifle also has a Boyds SS Evolution stock as well as the Accu-Trigger (Harris bi-pod not included). This rifle is, without question, a tack driver and a blast to shoot He is asking $400 OBO. PM me with any questions.

I've hunted 36c for quite some time both rifle and archery and have almost always been able to find decent bucks down around the base of the steep mountains. If i were truly going to search for a 90+" buck i would definitely get up high. The mountains are steep and that keeps the average hunter from tackling them. I would seriously consider the Mildred Peak/Jupiter mine area. The area is foot access only and is definitely some tough hiking. As far as the illegals and drug runners are concerned, during the cooler months their activity increases. The drug runners prefer the higher elevations as there are a lot of rock grouping and cover for them to hide in as well as a lot less Border Patrol presence. I definitely wouldn't do it alone.

Truck is sold.
-
My son is selling his 85 K10 and asked me to list it here on CWT. This truck has been in our family since it was brand new and almost everything is original. The truck has a 4" Rough Country lift, front light bar, and an in the bed spare tire mount. It has 179k miles on it and runs good. The engine will need to have some work done on it to get it back to tip top shape but aside from a weak motor the truck is solid. We recently converted the A/C to r-134a and it blows nice and cold. The truck has power windows and power locks and the interior is in fair condition. The dash will need to be replaced as it still has the original dash installed. He is asking $5500 for the truck and is willing to negotiate with regard to the price. If you are interested or would like more pictures, just PM me and i'll give you my sons contact info so you can deal directly with him.

I sure wish I had know that! I've ordered 5 custom turrets from them and not once had they mentioned that i could have gotten a free code. I just emailed them to see if I am eligible for the free code.

I have the exact same set of glass and they are awesome. In certain conditions i prefer them to my Swarovski 15x56's. A little on the heavy side but still good glass at a great price.

Yes, add the turret after sighting in with the factory turret. Also, i use the LR Hunter on all of my scopes. Before you say you won't shoot out past 600 yards you should really give it a try at the range once you get your scope dialed in. I'm willing to bet you'll change your mind. Most importantly, get really comfortable with your rifle and shoot each yardage mark at the range so you can gain the confidence you need in order to feel secure out to your selected limit and possibly beyond.

I use Kenton turrets on several of my rifles (300RUM, 300WSM, Bushmaster Varminter, and 30-06) and I absolutely love them. As far as using them at different altitudes, i've not, but I would tend to agree that unless you're making a huge jump the difference should be relatively negligible. I put one on my 300RUM just after i purchased it last year, sighted it in at 100 yards and didn't shoot it again until deer season at which time I made a 415 yard shot using the turret. The deer took a dirt nap where he stood.

Dang, I knew there was a reason i was keeping all of my 300 WSM brass! I've got about 200 rounds, most of which is Barnes ammo and probably 2 boxes of Federal. One of these days i'll by a reloading set-up.

You're always going to find someone that says something that will make you second guess your original choice, it will happen with everything you set you mind on. That being said, go with your gut as you came to your conclusion for a specific reason. Just because the same scope didn't work out for someone else doesn't mean it wont work perfectly for you. Just my 2 cents...

Here is the rifle i was seeking advice on barrel break-in, bullet choices etc. I just cant wait to go out and shoot it. I still need to put the Harris bi-pod and the sling on it but thats easy stuff. I absolutely love the way it feels when its in my shoulder and that is something i always prefer, if it doesnt feel good, its not for me.

I finally busted the bank and purchased a new Remington 700 Sendero chambered in 300 RUM. Since i dont reload (yet) i am going to start with Barnes 180gr TTSX as the BC is pretty good at a .484. Question i have, what is the best routine to break in the barrel?

I just purchased a Vortex Viper HS LR 6-24x50 XLR for my new 300RUM Sendero and need to get rid of the old Viper 6.5-20x50 PA. I'm out of town until Saturday and when i return I'm sending the old scope in to Vortex to be serviced, upon return i'll accept reasonable offers. I'd like to get $375-$400 for it as its in really good shape and has had only 2 hunting seasons worth of use. PM me if you're interested, I'll provide pictures as well upon my return home.

I try to send all my Vortex scopes back after each hunting season, pain in the butt to re-zero but it keeps the scopes in good condition. Nothing wrong with it, just one of the crazy things i do.

Anyone used a PTG fluted bolt as a replacement for a factory bolt on a Remington 700? I did a little checking and only found that it would be a beneficial idea to replace the extractor on the PTG bolt with an M16 style extractor. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The more i've read about people who have used them, the less inclined i am to do so. I've got everything (aside from the scope and it will be here Tuesday) that i need to start working up a load. I have a friend who has been long range shooting for quite some time and has all the tools, chrono, reloading equipment and so forth. With all of this I should be able to work up a suitable load and start dialing it in. I want to do this right and be able to shoot comfortably out to 1000 yards and have confidence as well as be comfortable with the rifle. It will take time, but i am oh so ready.

Casey, I just might do that. I'm not in any rush so i don't want to shortcut as i have the time to do this right.
